Understanding Vaping: some fundamental questions
Everyone welcome, just register in advance, see here.
These are free to attend, short, focussed events designed to enable interactive discussion and debate. During each dialogue a panel of speakers representing different perspectives each make short presentations, addressing a topic relating to nicotine use. A moderated Q&A and discussion session involving the audience follows the presentations. Please follow the links for more information. Refreshments will be served at each dialogue.
1. Dublin
Understanding Vaping: some fundamental questions
Tuesday 24th October 1400-1700 at the O’Callaghan Davenport Hotel, 8-10 Merrion Street Lower, Dublin
Questions the panel will address include:
- Is it possible to negotiate consensus on vaping in public spaces?
- Who should educate smokers & the general public, on safer forms of nicotine?
- What is the impact of regulation on smokers & vapers?
- Does the media's portrayal of the science on vaping inform or confuse?
- Between personal choice and public health; where should 'safer nicotine use' sit on this spectrum?
2. London
Understanding Vaping: engaging disadvantaged groups
Tuesday 31st October 1400-1700, in the Marketing Suite, the Guildhall, Basinghall Street, City of London
Questions the panel will address include:
- Who are we taking about?
- What function does smoking perform for different groups?
- What are the impediments to switching to safer forms of nicotine use for disadvantaged people?
- What role can professionals play in changing behaviour?
3. Durham
Understanding Vaping: the pleasure principle
Thursday 2nd November 1400-1700, at Crook Hall & Gardens, Frankland Lane, Sidegate, Durham, DH1 5SZ
Questions the panel will address include:
- Why do people vape?
- What is the ‘pleasure principle’?
- Is nicotine dependence a problem, and if so for whom?
