Found mine to be hard to undo, but if you put the button/pin assembly onto the 18650 extention you seem to be able to get a much better grip on the locking ring and free it.

Metal that is heated will expand(meaning to become larger), and metal contracts( shrinks) when it is cooled
so try it in the freezer or a pan of boiling water, might help free it up

Thanks for all the advice guys, it is much appreciated. I have tried heating it but no good, next I am going to try freezing them. I am going to get some of those grips because I think they will be useful, so cheers

As long as you are careful, use a pair of pliers, that's what i did, no marking at all on the ring, it is well made and the metal is of good quality, you won't mark it as long as you are careful
