Hey vapers

So, I'm just getting into this rebuilding thing - I've probably done around 10-12 builds so far - and I think I have the basics down. The thing that continues to stump me is finding the sweet spots.

At the moment, my go-to build is a 7 wrap, dual coil, 27g twisted kanthal A-1. My last build came out at about 0.35ohms. Flavour is really good, but there's a bit of a ramp-up time between the button press and vapours, but then it quicky gets very hot. This is vaping at around 60W.

What I'm struggling to understand are some of the subtleties of the relationships between build, ohms, ramp-up time and flavour.

What I need is some advice on building that (a) keeps the flavour quality very high (I'm definitely a flavour chaser), and (b) doesn't get too hot too fast, so I can take some longer draws.

I'm building in a Tugboat2 by the way. I also have a Troll kicking around, and a Tugboat slammed cap on the way.

I look forward to reading your replies. Thanks all!

Sometimes it's just a matter of trial and error, but if you're primarily after flavour I'd say you're building too low. That's not to say you can't get great flavour at such low resistance, but start at over 1.0 ohms and work your way down till you find a sweet spot.

I like smaller diameter coils, they heat up faster. I agree it's a balancing act though, you'll find what you like eventually, it took me awhile to find a build I was happy with.

I'm very happy with the flavour I'm getting, but I'll try a 1+ build later to see if its improved. Thanks for the tip.

Any known explanation as to why higher ohms above 1 are better for flavour? I'd be interested in knowing the reason behind the trade off here...

I was hoping to borrow from your experience. ;) Not that I'm not having fun learning for myself, mind you, I was just hoping to get some tips from those more experienced than me.

What mod are you using?

I have an iStick 50W and an iStick 100W loaded with 2 35A batteries (the iStick 100W can pump out up to 10V and will apparently fire down to 0.15ohm, for quick reference).

The huge amount of electricity required to fire low resistance coils mean huge airflow is required to prevent burning - this dilutes the vapour, reducing flavour.

My build is 6 wraps 24g round those little blue screwdrivers that come with every rda, dual coil, about 0.23ohms at 50-60w is perfect for me, give it a go and see what you thing.

Aaaah, I get you. I'll give a 1+ build a go later then, and dial the airflow down. Thanks for the suggestion.

Will do at some point. Was looking for a build that kept things a bit cooler atm - fed up of hot tokes meaning I was having to take short hits.

Thanks all ^^^^

My first and easiest resolve would be to turn that dual coil buil into a single coiler.

-you'll need less air flow
-it'll be cooler
-your ramp will be reduced.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some find twisted build a little harsher so maybe that combined with the heat your trying to lose is making it seem worse than it need be.

Sweet spots vary with moods tbh, one day i'm happy with a 1.5 build at 15 watts next its back normal with the 5 wrap fused at 0.35 and 70 watts.

If you are after flavour i do find fused coils to be king. Although been playing with tiger wire and its doing well. Simple to make too.

Anyway, crack on them coils aint gonna build themselves.
