How will I know when coil/wick needs changing?

Ok thanks, will look into it.

Dependant on juice, the way you vape and so on, coils just get gunked. E.g. the more dry burns you get the faster your coils will gunk, whilst using certain juices can do it very quickly. Generally 4-8 days is a fair time for a coil to last with an average juice (at least on an EVOD/Protank).

The best and most efficient way to keep your EVOD coils in top form is to wash em, dry it off quickly and touch some tissue to the exposed ends of the wicks to suck up excess water, then dry burn slowly with the airway funnel/cap off till it consistently glows. This process should be started with a low voltage (if using a VV battery) as you may fry your coil. After it is bone dry and between burns give it a sharp blow to remove any dried impurities and you're good to go! Doing this can really extend the life of your coils to weeks and even longer.

Be aware with the EVOD style heads that they come factory standard with a flavour wick (bit of wicking that lays over the coil) and you must take this into consideration when washing. If it is too dirty, becomes misshapen or distorts in the chamber it can give you problems. It is possible to remove this flavour wick entirely (most people recommend it anyway), but it can be a bit hit and miss whether it improves your vape or just makes the atty more temperamental i.e flooding! With coils that have been kicking around forever because of good maintenance, you will probably have to reshape the coil with a tool as it can get a bit bent.

Hope this was helpful and good luck..

Thanks for that run down Buffalo' . I didn't start this thread & i'm trying to hijack it either but what you said is useful to the newb. Cheers.

Thanks very much, that is some useful advice. Once I've got my new juice to put in my second EVOD I'll take the one I'm currently using apart

Been a long time user of the EVOD. Bought a set of 5 * 1.8 ohm coils off the internet. They came is a white box & after some research they turned out to be fakes. Binned those as they were no good.

Bought another set of 5 from a reputable company this time in a black box with proper kantertech branding. They had a short chimney & were labelled Evod & protank coils again 1.8 ohm. These were great but used that last one a couple of weeks ago.

Bought 2 * 5 pack 1.8 ohm again from a reputable company. Again black box with branding but this time evod protank & unitank were on the box. Long chimney this time.

First one leaked & failed within 1 day. I've got 3 Evods, 2 with the new long chimney coil, the other the last remaining short chimney. The short chimney one is fine, the other 2 with coils of only 2 days old are just not producing the vapour.

I thought the short chimney was the new style but maybe I've got that the wrong way round. Longer chimney ones are a little more fiddly to fit.

What is going on ?

Short chimney are just older design?

Thanks for the info folks, been using the same coil for about three weeks now, but have been dry burning it every few days and was wondering if it was the cause of my issues, and I'm still not sure as I just tried a new battery and that seems to have fixed most of the issues, will have to think about changing the coil if it doesn't get much better. Taste isn't off, but a juice that was giving good vape and throat hit is now waxing and waning depending on how I hit it, when before it was a hit every time...maybe it's time to change the coil!
