I've taken the plunge and ordered some basic diy mixing stuff, is it possible to fuk it up to the point where with whatever i concoct will do me harm? I want to try mixing my own but i'm very unconfident

Judy - best advice is mix some tasters using no nic and in very small quanities in case you hate them (and you don't waste any nic). Use a good calculator - I like this one as it's easy to use : http://e-liquid-recipes.com/recipe.php

The worst you can do is make something that tastes bad, just go easy on the Nic and use a calculator. DIY is great fun, you get to pretend to be a crazy scientist with bottles and potions. It's alive I tell you-ALIVE!

Use a calculator and mix in small quantities to start. I have a syringe (Liberty Flights do them) that holds at max 1 ml has major gradations at 1/10th of a ml, minor ones at a 20th. It lets me mix up in 4 or 5 ml bottles and minimizes the waste if things go wrong.

When things go wrong you can either lob it down the sink (as if its 4 - 5 ml its not going to bankrupt you) or add menthol. I find 1 drop of F'Arts butter and 2 drops of F'Arts arctic menthol will make virtually any 4 -5 ml mix of Frankenjuice taste like Murray Mints

You could write down exactly what you mix and then post it here for someone to have a look over it until you are 100% sure and confident of what you are doing
