This is just a little mini review/comparison of the 3 wire types. It's not like there's a huge amount you can say about wire really.
All of the wire was purchased by me with my own money from stealthvape (for the Ni200 and Titanium) and the crazy wire company for the Kanthal.
I have used each wire type at least twice in my ubertoot uta clone, just to make sure there was no fluke in the first build. I have used the wires in other atties as well but wanted a proper comparison.
First up is the one we all know Kanthal.
It's very easy and clean to work with and holds its shape well especially once you get above 0.30mm thickness. You can make spaced and micro coils. It can be dry burnt and tweeked.
I'm gonna use 0.5mm kanthal as a base line with the following categories :-
Ease of use: 10
Coil strength: 10
Reuseability: 9
Break in period: 9
Tempered Ni200 up next.
Nickel is soft which means you have to be careful, especially when threading your wick. Tempered nickel that stealthvape sells is better in my opinion as long as you don't dry burn it. It's a bit more forgiving.
I've tried both micro coil and spaced and found spaced (even very slightly spaced) works better, again in my opinion.
Nickel works great and gives you so much control over your vape. It's actually my preferred coiling wire for any tank atomiser.
The only thing I don't like with nickel is it gets gunked up after a few days when vaping custard and unless you're willing to risk dry burning you have to recoil. In my opinion there also seems to be a slight taste to it for about half a tank.
For this comparison I used 0.4mm Tempered Ni200.
Ease of use: 7
Coil strength: 6
Reuseability: 2
Break in period: 7
Next up Titanium
I don't know if titanium is ment to be dirty but it leaves what looks like pencil lead dust marks on your fingers so you have to clean it really well. I used ipa (no not beer).
Once clean I'd say titanium coils as well as a similar thickness kanthal, and you can do spaced or micro coils. I do a micro coil then stretch it slightly so it's micro spaced ( I just invented that term :-P ).
Couple of other cons of titanium are you can't dry burn it at all and it tastes funny for about a tanks worth. It also gunks up quickly like nickel when vaping custard.
If you want to use temp control in a dripper and prefer a warm vape like kanthal use titanium.
For these tests I used 0.5mm medical grade titanium.
Ease of use: 9
Coil strength: 9
Reuseability: 0
Break in period: 4
If you're not interested in temp control stick with Kanthal. If you want to try it I'd say used tempered ni200.
All tests were made using muji cotton and on the sigelei 75w and snow wolf 200w and also using my home brew custard.
I am in no way affiliated with stealthvape but if you want ni200 buy his tempered stuff.
