Sorry, should have qualified that:Just to clarify this, I have worked all sorts of shift patterns over the years, 6-2 & 2-10, 6-2 & 2-10 & 10-6, 7-7 4on 4off, 2-10 permanent.
There is no official unsociable hours pay, it's more down to supply / demand in the relevant labour market.
Most of my time on shiftwork was maintenance in 24/7 plants, and a rule of thumb was permanent early, or late shift was about 10% extra, 6-2 and 2-10 and 10-6 about 20% extra, 7-7 4on 4off 30% extra, but it depended as I say, on the labour markets at the time.
The only "hard" official rule concerning shiftwork is that you have to allow a 20 minute tea / lunch break every 6 hours.
That's why a lot of shops, pubs, and restaurants etc like to employ people working six hours at a time, that way they don't legally have to give them a paid break.
I've done most types of shift, my favourite being 8am until 2am in the pub.Most SUPERMARKET shift work I know (other than checkout staff) runs as 6am - 2pm, 2pm - 10pm, 10pm - 6am. .
