Maple

Cheers, I'll have a look at that then. I really like FA hazelnut, its just that its like vaping razorblades to me. I've tried to smooth it out into custards and creams to no avail.

How much hazelnut are you putting in your mixes? It’s very strong but subtle. I only use 0.5 % in most mixes, and I’ve found using more doesn’t make the flavour stronger, only harsher. Too much actually makes it go a bit metallic tasting. But at low percentages it’s an extremely accurate hazelnut flavour.

edit: ignore this, I see you already discussed it :D

Yeah, I agree. ... and all of them have great and not so great flavours.

I think it’s fair to say that some have more misses than others though. I try and avoid TFA for instance because a few I’ve tried have either been crap or tasted nothing like they are supposed to (but still turned out useful, like the maple).

The hazelnut is fantastic combined with vienna cream and caramel, incidentally.

I think TFA have some of the best flavours in some catagories ... Peanut Butter DX is the only Peanut Butter I need ... They also have the best Pistachio, the amazing Toasted Almond and the best Kentucky Bourbon.... and Vanilla Swirl.

It will be interesting as my current process of 'thinning the herd' will hopefully leave me with 1 or 2 flavours of each type, so it will be interesting to see how each brand is represented in my favourites. I have a feeling it will be quite even but it might not turn out so.

Ah @Simon G as I started reading your post I thought, hmm maybe I should try their pistachio. The I got to vanilla swirl. That stuff’s shit, to me. It’s generic vanilla with a chemical after taste. I just couldn’t make it taste very good at all.

It’s interesting how we all have different taste perceptions.

Maybe I should try some though, I have maybe 5 or 6 and was either not all that impressed or slightly bewildered. Maybe I’ve not tried their best ones.

I would defo recommend Pistachio, Toasted Almond and Peanut Butter DX. I think those are 3 of the best nut flavours I've had.

Vanilla Swirl is not something I use all the time, especially as a vanilla but it is in tons of recipes and I don't think it has an equivalent from anyone else. It is a generic artifical Mr Whippy thing though but it can add some body and bind flavours together, most people seem to use it more like an additive.

They do 2 caramel normal and a V2 what’s the best..

V2 is pretty nasty and doesn't taste of maple syrup.... they are totally different.

You want just 'caramel' or (V1 if it says that)

I've found most TFA stuff needs to be mixed with another brand to round it out, so Apple is much better when added to FA fuji apple, or bav cream needs a bit of capellas bav cream to fill out the body. That implies that FA fuji, however good, is also lacking something IMO
