Hi all,

I asked this question on the chat room but it kept freezing so didnt get an answer.

Im using a mech mod with an 18650 li-mn battery and disposable safety fuse. If my coil goes bad and dies (as they do after time) how will i know? will the vapour just lesson so i know to change it and keep the safety fuse ok or will the safety fuse trip and not work to let me know the coil has died or will the mech mod just keep firing away until something bad happens..

i dont really think that every time a coil goes bad then you have to replace the safety fuse (at 2.50 each)..

any help is appreciated.

Also i have a 510 voltmeter attached to my mod...before i attach my atomiser it reads (4.05) on a freshly charged battery! when i screw on atomiser and use it...it drops down to 3.2 volts!! surely this is not right.....3.2 is the charge zone for a battery isnt it??

any help appreciated.

All depends...volt wise how low ohms is the coil how much volt-drop is your mech. giving ? too many variables...coil-wise, flavour will tell when its time to rewick and re-coil

It's a 2.2 ohm pre made coil...before protank is on it it measures 4.03 on a fresh 18650 2000mah battery. Then when I attach protank and draw on it...voltmeter says 3.2 volts! Vape is fine I just dont like such a volt drop when its in use...plus on a 4.2 charged battery..the mods volt drop can't be 4.03 surely .that's a two volt drop before atomiser is on it.

An efest 2000 mah imr 3.7v high drain..is that even the right battery to use in a mech mod..calculated it all wrong haven't I? Gahhh

Use an aw IMR or sony vtc4 for best results AND MEASURE COIL RESISTANCE for your own safety...always use (at least) vented decent batteries, can't comment on Efest....

I just put the tank voltage tester on my vv/vw mod and when I vaped it it read the same...3.2 volts when in use...so both devices vape at the same..using two different batteries..does that mean it's safe to vape at 3.2 volts when it's in use?

The battery voltage will drop under load to be expected under load due to internal battery resistance
If the mod is new then the volt drop test will give you an indication of battery degradation over time and/or resistance of mech mod.
The volt drop is dependant on the amount of current fed to the coil and the circuit resistance.
Look at the table of resistance/voltage and keep in the "zone" when using mech. mods.
Not being a killjoy, this is why knowing the coil resistance is important specially on mech mods. your vv/vw mod will, by and large, sort itself out with regards to coil resistance.

Thanks sparky...I worked out that I'm vaping at 1.68 amps...well that's if the voltmeter said when I vape it was at 3.7 volts..but it says 3.2 so 3.2/2.2 (ohms) is 1.45 amps..I still don't know if that's safe. The battery has a 10 amp limit so at least I know it won't blow up...
