I recieved a mechanical mod today from China- I know but always wanted one and dont have loads of dosh- anyway looks and feels great but after about 3 or 4 minutes it gets so hot I have to stop. I have used different batteries to test all with the same result. I dont want to post a link as I am not sure if it is allowed. Have sent off email but China on holiday at mo.

Any advice most welcome please. I have been vaping for nearly 20 months now so not a complete newbie but never used a mech before. Also hope this is the correct place to post this as this is the first time I have really needed help.
Thanks in advance

Cath

Rub down the connection on the switch to the battery. It will get hot if its arcing. Are the batteries high enough discharge for the ohms?

Sent from somewhere in cloudy Kent

What mod is it?
What battery are you using?
What ohms is the coil?
Is it bottom, side fire? Spring or Magnet?

These are very important and people really can't give you good info without knowing this ;) :P

Mods arent supposed to get hot, stop using it until you get some feedback... Pics are helpful too :)

Not knowing what your using doesn't help anyone answer you. it's obviously a short somewhere and if it's a Caravela clone then I can understand it... Tell us what your using.

Its a [h=1]Marstech KK Electronic Cigarette Telescoping Mechanical Mod[/h]
and I have tried efest imr 18650 and icr18350 and tried protank at 1.75, kayfun at 1.9 and iclear16 at 2.1 all with same result, body and atties get very hot so stopped now.

Thanks Cath

Theres definitely a short IN the mod if it is happening with other batteries. On a really important note DO NOT USE unprotected ICR BATTERIES IN MECH MODS! (not just aimed at you, but any user of mech mods) Stop using it immediately.

Having a look at the mod online, it looks like the spring in the button is really flimsy

And there doest appear to be any other kind of hotspring. I am assuming the bit with the White (bottom middle) is the bottom cap. The short is most likely in there or in the swtich

Ok, thanks for advice about batteries and yes that is bottom cap,and spring does fall out easily. Ah well serves me right for going cheap. Also the atty with it was doa.

Thanks for help

Why understand if its the Caravela?

Why understand if its the Caravela?

Because Caravela's rely on the tiny little strip of plastic sleeve on the battery itself to insulate the negative terminal. A few of my batteries don't have this as it's broke during constant in and out of the charger. If I put one of these in either of my two Vela's they fire constantly. Unlike the Nemesis which has a rather thick black plastic insulation ring around the negative terminal.

Looking at that picture of the mod in question, well, I wouldn't know where to start with that :hmm:
