Metallic Taste of RTA

Hey guys, so I've recently been getting a horrible metallic taste with no flavour off my RTA from the last few builds. Originally it was fine but the last 3 builds I've done have all tasted terrible. Was just wondering what could be causing this?

Should note I dry hit the coils and made sure it was heating up from the middle and the coil isn't touching the chimney as the resistance stays the same after I've assembled it all. Is it simply a case that the build deck needs cleaning in hot water?

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

What's changed between your last good build and the subsequent three?

The only thing that''s changed is the coils. I've tried a few different pre-built coils and they all result in this metallic taste.

Last time I cleaned the build deck was 2 weeks ago, the rest of the tank was cleaned today - Is 2 weeks too long? Will post up some pictures of the build deck once I've eaten!

Personally, I take my RTA's completely apart and clean all of the components including the deck every week or two. It really depends. I vape the same jucie and use the same coils and my vaping habits don't change so this works for me. The taste of the jucie will tell you if you need to do anything.

I'm not saying this is causing your issue but no harm keeping your stuff clean regardless

Good to know, I'll give it a clean with hot water tomorrow and see if it helps.

Not cleaning the deck wouldn’t cause a metallic taste, surely? I hardly ever clean mine unless it’s gurgling or tastes of mould.

It's normal to have some metallic / wick taste when starting to use a new build, it should go away fairly quickly though.

The problem is most likely related to whatever you're doing differently. Can you go back to the original coils that worked well or a different type to the ones giving you problems.

From the pictures I see you're using what looks like flat twisted wire coils, do you see scorch marks on the wick when you take it out, if so it could be a wicking problem.

Note, dry burning coils should be avoided based on the latest recommendations as it can impact the metal, at most you could pulse it at low power to check for hotspots.
