I’ve been vaping a good few years. Once over the main flavours were waffle (smelled like curry) , ry3/4, peanut, menthol etc etc. Flavour was limited ... ish, but there were some nice experiments here and there. You could get straight flavours, for e.g. peanut, it just tasted of peanut, and melon, just tasted of melon. It seems now , flavours are a mass of different flavours and generally I find, the main flavour is sugar. I really fancied some peanut recently and purchased some The King, (can’t remember it’s full name) - all I can taste is sugar. I’m leaving it to steep for a bit, but I doubt the sugar will fade and the peanut come forward. This is how it has been for the past couple of years, or perhaps since TPD. Everything seems to be cakes, sweeties, milkshake and cereals, or some sort of sugary fruit melange. They’re what I call Big Baby flavours, everything eyewateringly sweet where sugar is the boss. I used to love Vermillion River flavours which as I recall were more subtle and aromatic, I had a fondness for oriental tobaccos, cardamoms, and some florals - virgin vapour midnight magician was excellent after a damn good steep. It seems now everything is big baby flavour. Perhaps I’m just bored. But I would love to find some straightforward flavours that aren’t sweetshop or patisserie. Is it just me being a boring git or is it more is less?

I can already hear “mix your own” but as I struggle somewhat with numbers (dyscalculia) , such possibility seems beyond my Ken.

Diy would definitely be the best way for you. What strength do you puff? If it’s mtl strength it could be as easy as buying some 50/50 nic shots and some concentrates from inawera, flavour art etc, add a certain amount of drops and you would be cooking. Inawera sesame at 4 drops/10ml, for example. That’s if you can puff 18mg happily. If not, go half and half with 50/50 base mix, add the drops and you have 9mg.

@zouzounaki I believe is a great fan of the more subtle, more aromatic and less Big baby style juices and I am betting he would be able to point you in the direction of some very nice, up-to-date flavours to try.

I’m down to 1.5 now, gone are the days of 12mg. I want smoked applewood again and straight flavours. I get confused by numbers and then throw a strop lol. I’ve been searching for the holy grail of eliquid for years. Yes I should mix my own. I loved VR and like kind juice, geisha moonsong - jasmine plum wine and also blueberry, they’re pretty straight flavours and not too fussy. I’ve got some KJ Blueberry steeping at the mo, it’s a while since I’ve had it so interested to see if the flavour comes across as too sweet. I gave up sugar a few weeks back so I think my palette has changed.

Question is, is anyone else exasperated by the prominence of the big baby flavours?

I think I would be exasperated with it if I was limited to buying premixed liquid for sure. Fortunately diy affords me the opportunity to puff the kind of flavours you are describing.

Have you tried manabush, indigene, druid’s brew? Those are more adult orientated flavours imo.

There are also the prime vapes tobacco range, I’ve not tried them but people seem to speak highly of them. Also drakes (NETs).

You could also try premixed liquid from flavour concentrate manufacturers such as inawera, atmos labs, flavour art etc. if they still do them. Might be more likely to be to your taste, especially inawera and atmos but I think you might need to order them direct (poland and greece). Inawera ‘s shipping direct is pretty cheap and fast in my experience of buying concentrates from them.

I've struggled to find non-sweet simple flavours too. Tobacco wise Drakes NETS are very good, and I've had good reports of JuiceCabins NETs too (must order some soon). A lot of people swear by Manabush, but personally I found them pretty nasty and synthetic tasting. Some of the Red Vape range aren't bad - The Cherryleaf is the most natural non-sweet cherry flavour I've found.
