So I've got a mech freehand and love it but every time people ask whats the best, mech or mosfet the general answer seems to be mosfet but nobody says why.
I know the difference but was wondering why people prefer mosfet before I get another one.
So why do you guys prefer mosfets over full mechs?
Cheers

I have not tried the mechs but apparently the mosfets buttons are easier on the thumb and are not prone to heating up. I like the easier maintenance as well...

@mustybadger kindly listed this in a thread last year..

https://www.beaumvape.co.uk/product/limelight-mechanics-freehand-gloom/

MECH SWITCH
This is the same original firing mechanism used on all previous Freehand S mods. Pressing the button, the silver plated pin under the Stainless Steel switch plate touches the battery top and conducts the electricity directly to the 510 connector. The switch has a spring like feel when pressing and requires 600g of force to activate meaning it has a nice stiff throw. Like any mechanical device, the switch will require periodical cleaning as arcing between the firing pin and the battery may cause build up and drop in performance of the switch.

MOSFET SWITCH
Pressing the button, you will activate a tactile button under the Stainless Steel switch plate giving a signal to the MOSFET installed inside the mod, which will in turn conduct the high current to the 510 connector. Limelight Mechanics have isntalled top of the range MOSFET’s that can handle over 200A of current without dissipating any heat. The tactile button used is rated at some 300g of activating force. This switch system has virtually zero voltage drop as a result of precise wiring and component positioning it requires no maintenance.

With a mosfet, you won’t have to clean the contacts regularly and your less likely to experience volt drop through mis-pressing (just made a word up) the button. However, some just prefer the ‘feel’ of a Mech and the simplicity. Horses for courses I guess..

Thanks for the replies, but so far not seeing any advantage, a little clean which involves 2 screws and a nut or when you do have a problem, which seems to be mainly mosfets, send it back and wait months.
So far a mech still seems the better to me!
Inputs appreciated from members of the award winning forum as always :)

I do know when rob went for a mosfet after being happy with his mech ones he was so impressed he had the mech ones converted.

waiting for @Rob to wade in, I know he like's his freehands and has had both
He should be back aboard in the morning bud. He should be able to explain the differences very well. It takes something special to impress him so it must be worth the hassle. I'd like it explained myself.

No rush to hear from him but also respect his thoughts and know he can explain things well so look forward to his thoughts.
To me the beauty of squonking is the simplicity thats why I like the mechs....metal bottle coil simple to work, if it goes wrong its something I did not the mod!

Also the reason for the question, I want somebody to say why they think its better, I know alot say its better but nobody ever says why they think its better.

Mornin' All :)
Sorry I could get on this sooner, but I was knackered last night and needed my Bed ;)

Right, Mech Freehand v MosFet Freehand.
My first one, the Walnut One was a Mech, I really loved that Mod with a Passion, flooding the forum with this picture whenever the opportunity arose :p

At the time that I bought this one (Secondhand from @Fopster) the MosFet/Piezo option was still no more than a twinkle in Dejan's eye. I heard about the development as it was nearing fruition, but did nothing about it at that point.
Now jump forward to The Sunday of Vapefest last year. @laco listed this beauty and I snagged it within an hour of his listing it.

THIS one is the latest version of the MosFet/Piezo combination and had the 24mm 510 as opposed to the 22mm Catch Cup one on the Walnut.
For ME, the major difference has to to have been the soft touch that the switch now had, requiring no effort whatsoever to fire the Mod, the Walnut Mech had always had a button that required quite a manly push, this may not have been quite so evident if the Freehand wasn't a Top Firer, but the difference was like Night and Day. The very day after it arrived with me, I was already in discussion with Dejan about having the Walnut converted!! IF one is blessed with arthritic fingers and Thumbs, the MosFet is the answer to the Maiden's Prayer. As an example, Carol had always adored the ergonomics of the Freehand, but struggled with the stiff Firing Switch, the minute she tried the MosFet, that was that! In effect, I lost that gorgeous Freehand to her.

OK, so the MosFet/Piezo does introduce a few changes under the switch Plate all of which are very neatly done. Cleaning and spilled juice is a doddle and to be honest, I found that unlike the Mech, maintenance "almost" became a thing of the past.
I believe it is fair to say that when using the M/P setup, Firing is absolutely instantaneous, no lag, no fuss. Of course the other bonus is that because of the clever design of the switch Plate, you can set things up in such a way as to make this Touch Sensitive, or as near as damn it. Whilst one can do a similar thing with The Mech, it doesn't work quite so efficiently to my way of thinking and is still considerably stiffer to fire.

I acquired another Stabwood Freehand which boasted all the same features and adored it.

Fate stepped in.......... and this is the one possible downside to the Mosfet/Piezo. Carol's Mod stopped Firing, after much fiddling about it became evident that it needed to go back to Dejan. Not a major issue and DON'T forget that every Limelight Product carries a Lifetime Warranty. Total turn around time once it arrived in Serbia was less than a week and it was on its way back home. LUCKILY, it wasn't here when we had the intruders, so this Mod wasn't stolen, much to Carol's delight.

@andy3434 Things have changed and for the better when it comes to dealing with Limelight now. One now speaks directly to Maja, Dejan's Fiancee and she arranges everything. You send the Mod back to them and then it returns to you. No more Middle Men/Woman ;) no more never being quite sure when said person would actually send items out to Serbia and certainly NO more then waiting and waiting because your Mod had been posted back to you by Second Class Snail Mail just before Christmas!!!!

If one is buying a Brand New Mod, Maja is again your point of contact and dealing with her is a real joy.
