As the title suggests what is the value of having a multimeter in your kit?

Do you own one?

What do you use it for?

Does owning a Variable voltage/ wattage device make them a little less useful?

Is there a generally considered best type on the market?

Genuinely interested as a two year + vaper who has so far not found owning one essential. It may be interesting and useful for new vapers too

I have one. It is used elsewhere for continuity testing, measuring amperage, resistance etc. The only thing I have used it for in vaping is to test the resistance of a home wired atomizer - and to check the resistance of another one. I could make do without it.

I have one too, but not bought specifically for vaping. The only things I use it for are to check the voltage of batteries after charging and when recoiling my Penelope to check resistance. Now I know what length of wire I need to wrap a coil at the resistance I prefer, the multimeter rarely comes out of the cupboard.
Definitely something non-essential.

I don't use or own a multi multimeter. Being a simple, boge in tank, vaper, I feel no need. Ok yes, if I planned to fiddle and repair, a multi meter would be a useful tool but seeing as a boge cartomiser is non repairable, checking a duff one with a meter would serve no purpose. If it fizzes and pops, gives me a lung full of vapour, it's working. Same goes with batteries, again, non repairable so why meter a duff one? If I was to check a device with a meter and,for example, a meter gave me a reading of 2.7 ohms, then thats what it is, and it will still be 2.7 ohms after metering, nothing would change.

Hmm so anyone think they are indispensable or even mildly useful?

I'm sure that if I already had a meter, curiosity would prompt me to try it with my vaping gear, but I wouldn't buy one just as a vaping accessory.
As far as 'useful'? I can think of one time when a meter would come in right handy. If you had mixed up a load of LR and normal R boges or even LR normal R visions and/or other clearos.

I had a wee multimeter before I started vaping. I use it quite a lot. But reality is that if the gear you're using vapes well and suits you, who cares what resistance or voltage its at?

I have one and i bought it for checking my batteries that i use in my vaping gear. Once a week i check they are charging & discharging to the correct voltage, why ? just for peace of mind i think.

Could i do without, yes more than likely.

I use mine for checking batteries and my (ever growing) collection of re-buildables. I'm continually trying new wick and coil ideas, so a 5 turn coil can vary from 1.4 to 2 ohms. I like to know if the coil I've just wrapped is going to burn the back off my throat or not, before I cut the wire and press the button. It's also a lot easier to check the resistance of a possibly malfunctioning atty than hunting around swapping devices and batteries, only to find out that the batteries need re-charging.
