I recently got into doing my own coils and wicks to save money on new heads (Vivi Nova, for the record). Well, WANTING to do my own coils, rather. From what I've seen people have said to use 28Gauge (.32MM) Kanthal wire for the coil and whatever I see fit as the wick. I'm using silica because it's just what I bought and what I have around. I just have a couple questions as to what exactly I should do to make the coil to at least work correctly. I know the length and diameter go into determining the resistance of the coil, and 3 wraps around the wick was recommended. But after boring out my own intake (I'm not sure what its called, the part where the coil goes to for power, but also where the air comes into the e-cig, not the bottom holes, the internal one) I had to trim up the coil that was in there in order to put it back together. I'm happy with the new air flow, but I don't seem to be producing quite as much vapor. Is that because I trimmed up the coil so much? I took off around 1/3 of an inch or so, and it seems like that would affect it, but I figure I should ask. I guess what I'm getting at is, I shortened my coil so did that hinder my e cig's performance, and how should I go about making my own coils with 28ga Kanthal wire.

Youtube is how I learnt to do it I never did one of those before.
