Going by the page following there's no reason for this not to work: Resistance wires and TC ~ Vape safe and prosper

But...

This...

Tried. Failed.

It kinda worked on a DNA40...enough for me to now utterly write off TC for good.

How come only kinda worked on your dna40 Mawsley?

I had all but written off tc until I came across Tubby's thread about nife. But I'm glad I gave it another shot with this stuff as it's a fantastic vape.

Don't give up on it just yet.

Mawsley what kind of NiFe is it? The NiFe discussed in the page you linked to is the Resistherm type (totally different to the stealthvape type).

Either way, I am not aware of any NiFe wire that should glow set at 150 oC in Ni mode. Did you lock in the resistance at 0.14 at room temp?

I think the only way NiFe could be glowing at such a low setting is if the coil was miscalibrated, calibrated with a bad contact, or the mod is faulty.

The only thing I've locked now is any notion of trying TC ever again. All told, I hate temperature controlled mods and coils. I hate them with a passion. Hatehatehatehatehate.

Are you sure thats Niffy you've got?, the reel in the background has a blue label, mine has orange labels?

That's the .6 Kanthal I'm coiling with in a minute. Proper coils for proper vaping :14:

I'm not sure whats gone wrong, Nife should work just fine in a DNA40, around 390f it should be exactly the same as NI200 - I think you're just cursed...

I've been in the same camp as you Mawsley when it comes to TC vaping. I've played about with it on and off but never been taken with it so my daily vapes have always been good old Kanthol. I got some Stealthvape Niffy too to try and get a good hold on it at long last, just don't like Ni200 and don't fancy Ti at all, imagine doing what you've just done with Ti:11:, no thanks.

Anyway I ended up putting a dual build (something I'd never have managed with Ni200) in a Billow V2, 8 wraps around 2.5mm of 0.28 twisted coming in a steady 0.09ohm at room temperature. I've run four tanks through it now running it at 30W, same as I do with my Kanthol build in my other one. I tried to get the coils around the same size and mass as my Kanthol build too, not far off I don't think but I couldn't manage a clapton, maybe try a Kanthol claptoned Niffy core next time. It was a bit of a bugger setting the coils from the start, hot spots took a bit of getting out, tried not to dry burn them too much but it did take a bit to settle them.

To start off I put it on my fancy pants VTbox200 thinking I'd set all the right TCR's downloaded from Steamengine and it'd be all nice and easy. It was easy downloading it and setting up a profile for it and it did work great once I'd turned the preheat power and punch away down. Going by feel and watching it on the device monitor it was coming right up to power and temperature, the vapour and flavour was all there, nice and consistant, and I'm thinking wow this is it! nailed it!!! Only it didn't last for long, randomly it would just think it was way hotter than it was and back right off, then it would be fine again for another few toots. Given what happened next I'm thinking this must be something to do with the 510 on the VTbox, how are you getting on with yours in TC mode Tubbyengineer?

Back to Steamengine I had a look at the Ni200 equivalent temps, let everything settle at room temp again and put it on my Tan plus DNA40 set at 210C, some might think it's a bit high but it should be just under cotton charring point, it just worked consistently:11:

Today was the first time I'd felt confident enough with a TC set up to take it to work with me, again, no problems all day. Getting home tonight with a nearly empty tank (the fourth through this set up) I thought I'd give it a real test and vape it as dry as dry can be. I just kept on vaping it far beyond when I'd normally have filled it up, the vapour and flavour started backing off but still I went on until it pretty much gave me no vapour at all, but just as important no dry hits either,,,, this is the result.

After this pic I primed the wicks up again, filled the tank and it's vaping away again no harm done.

What are my thoughts on it??? Apart from the last bit which you'd never do with a Kanthol build it did nothing for me that I couldn't do with Kanthol with a lot less effort. The flavour is the best I've had from a TC build but still not quite what I can get from Kanthol. It has given me that little bit of hope for TC though, I'll continue to play around with it, maybe a dripper next now I know I can get a decent dual coil, maybe some hybrid coils.
