What's new

One would like to join the fold of vapers

Whilst I can't comment on your friend and I'm no dr I will say that it would be very hard to vape that much. You know when you've had enough (headache, nausea, generally feeling light headed and feel crap) and most people stop well before it gets to that stage. What ml liquid was he using and where did he get it?

Just think an explanatory post could be useful here. Obviously vaping nicotine carries certain risks if the vaper has health issues. In fact, if the vaper has health issues of a resparetory nature and vapes without any nicotine there are still concerns to be addressed. Given the mad dash by those in power and of course BAT to constrict our vaping pleasure, the last thing we want is the tabloids reporting on an emergency or (god forbid) death, brought about as a result of vaping. (no doubt the Sun would show the poor bugger still clinging to his vamo!) I simply wish to promote a responsible attitude. Vaping nicotine in a carto, or whatever, is a world away different from smoking a cigarette. Said it before and I will continue to post this advice, If you have any issues or concerns that vaping is safe for you, DO NOT ask the question on a forum such as this. We value you as a member and wish you the very best, so we advise you to check with your GP if you are at all concerned. I think I speak for the entire forum on this, however I will accept a slap down if I am wrong.:anyone:

I don't know what he was using or what strength etc I think he was a heavy smoker before he bought an e-cig. I don't know about his medical health or if he has any underlying conditions. I don't like to ask really. Just wanted to try and support him.

Firstly, welcome to the forum (mad house), with regard to the guy ending up in hospital.........I'm not sure how that would be possible unless he intended to do it.

Vaping is similar to smoking in that respect......you know when you have had enough and stop!

I have a question/concern though; a friend if mine recently ended up in hospital with a suspected heart attack. It was discovered that it was a huge overload of nicotine from the e-cigs he had been using. Apparently a doctor told him he had smoked the equivalent of 120 fags in one day?? Is that possible? Can you vape too much? Does it depend greatly on the liquid used? I don't think that would happen to me but I am a bit concerned after his experience. :/ Has anyone else had any bad side effects from vaping?

Welcome to the Planet.

Yes you can vape too much. there are a bunch of symptoms to nicotine overdose and you *really* have to go some to vape yourself to that kind of position.
If you are an adult and have a nicotine tolerance already(are a smoker or ex smoker) then unless you use e-liquid for eyedrops, drink it or spill lots of it on your skin and don't wash it off, then the chances of winding up getting rushed to hospital are very close to nil.

E-Liquid is poisonous, very poisonous, if you drink 10ml you'd be really ill. 2ml of 18mg liquid is estimated to be a fatal dose for a young child. It's also not great if you spill it on your skin and don't wash it off. Used as intended though in an e-cig getting enough nicotine into your system to do you serious harm is nearly impossible. You get nauseous, light headed, dizzy, headaches long before you get to the point where nicotine overdose becomes dangerous.

There are caveats though. Vaping is a new thing and there are people out there who mix up really poor quality stuff, in less than ideal conditions. It's entirely possible that this person got a bad batch of e-liquid from a dodgy car boot, or the man he saw about a dog at his local. Decent e-liquid costs around £3 a bottle (10ml) (which will last an occasional user about a week) It comes in bottles with child resistant caps and has a printed label will have the TOXIC symbol on the label, the address or contact details of the people that made it and several sentences like 'Toxic in contact with skin' along with a raised warning triangle somewhere on the bottle. Which is known as CHIP packaging, and is a basic legal requirement. There are people on Facebook, and ebay (selling ecig stuff is banned by ebay) and carboots and other places selling e-liquid that doesn't comply with this and some of it might well be poorly mixed/dangerous.

You can get side effects from vaping. Dry throat is probably the most common. If you're allergic to PG or VG (the two main components in e-liquid) you can use liquid that is 100% PG or 100% VG depending on what you need. Outside of allergic reactions there aren't any reported bad side effects known. the juries still out on the long term effects (they'll be back in about 15 years to report) but all the science so far says vaping is 99% safer than smoking, and approximately as dangerous as drinking coffee.

If you have any concerns about vaping and your health then the absolute best thing to do is go talk to your doctor.

Thanks for all the info VaperCaper. I do tend to overworry about things and want to be safe. With a friend having a bad reaction it got me a bit concerned. I don't know the full story though, only what he chose to tell me. It's quite possible he got some bad liquid and as a heavy smoker, probably vaped himself sick with dodgy liquid, but I don't know. E-liquid eye drops though? hehe, that made me laugh :D
I see you are in Salisbury...my hometown, although I now reside in Bedfordshire.

Like you said midnight, what he chose to tell you and what might be the fact could be another story, but all I know is that vaping has been a good choice for me and others that I know personally.

I'm with you on the over worrying though, I went through half a bar of soap when I first got a tiny bit of e liquid on my finger but that's not so much of a worry now days, its more like, have I charged my batteries, do I have enough of my favorite e liquid ( I have 250 ml of custard in the cupboard ) lol

I think its a good thing to have a little worry as it makes you wanna find out more to reassure yourself and learn. I've spent many hours and nights watching YouTube videos and searching forums and that's all part of the fun imo , so sounds like your in the right place ;)

I agree, it's good to know as much as possible and certainly the facts. Laughing at you using half a bar of soap when spilling a drop of e-liquid on your skin. That would be me too to start off with! :D I didn't think about youtube but I reckon that will be on my agenda next ...
