What's new

Opinion : PODs vs Tanks and Atomisers, and why I think more people should be using rebuildables.

I have one gripe with rebuildables
Is they are not on the market long enough before the next version is out
also getting spares for some tanks ie glass, orings and screws can be a nightmare

This is all what i have been saying for a while now. Nice to have vendors showing the same passion on the issues raised. I would also like to see no eliquid boxes The bottles and maybe a leaflet at most would also offset some waste and reduce the costs for consumers. A specialist vape recycling place may also be of benefit, metals could then be recycled rather than buried, batteries disposed of correctly rather than going into the bin with a device. etc etc. With the Governments apparent aim of a no smoking UK. This could be used in favour of early marketing towards vaping. If Smokers know tobacco products will be banned from 2030 surely more will switch sooner creating a good for all round situation, job's and the vaping industry taking over from big Tobacco and some of big pharma's money. But it should be done on a small business basis, i would not want to see companies become to big as this creates unfairness but there's time for government legislation on that. maybe a profit tax rather than vat, this would help consumers and keep it fairer on business as those who make less get help and those making to much pay to help those in need. A balance is needed to keep a better quality level. Obviously there's all the ins and outs to consider as well but there's a lot more scope for things to be made better and to work better for the Industry, but the waste issue is one we all should be considering more.

Going on what 's been said about pod systems and poor flavour. 8 years or so ago i purchased an ego pen with the plastic cartomiser, flavour was there but not the best at all. I continued to smoke, a couple of years later and more determined to quit i used a Kanger protank 3. Flavour was much better, i managed to vape full time and the difference was a better coil and wick and a glass and metal liquid container or simply put a tank. Pods are a similar if not the same material as the old carto's and hence the loss of flavour.

They (pods) are a con. they are like taking out a monthly subscription. with every say 3rd months the price goes upby a bit, thats when you replace the other pod with the upgraded one with flashing lights, the upgrade is actually a downgrade as the lights use more battery and its the same battery as in the 1st one.
A lot to digest there!
Have you seen our “boxes”? They are not much more than a leaflet, made from one strip of cardboard wrapped around, that was a concious decision

Agreed - that again tho is a demand driven by distros et al.

i have recently been talking to a manufacturer who says they design a product get a promise to buy loads from a distro, who buy once and sell it till the next big thing comes along then forget them and dont buy anymore. The manufacturer ends up left with hundreds of what are perceived in this artificially high turn around market as a dated product. This is not what the manufacturer wants, but they get caught in this cycle of demand for new being driven by distros

i have made the suggestion they make a more modular product, that they can bring new types of caps or decks etc out for to prolong the market lifespan of the product.
Wether or not thats feasible i dont know.

i suspect distros do not want that tho.

Same with many pods and stock tanks though ............ and that often means you can't use them at all as the pods/coils get discontinued. :(

ADDED: *now read whole thread* :8:

This happens with pods, you have the latest greatest one, then they bring out a v2, a potv reviewer says its far better than the v1. Oh, but you need the new coils and the previously unavailable rba deck, and then, you can't get the v1 coils anymore.

The Wotofo manik mini coils, to my knowledge, have never been available, to purchase, from a UK vendor. wtf, Wotofo promoted and sold, via UK vendors and reviewers, a pod system where the coils have never been available, to buy, in the UK.

I've never bought any type of pod system - they just don't appeal to me.

One reason is many are internal lipo - of the 3 lipo devices I've bought 2 are dead , the third only alive because I've never charged it above 80% and use it for sub 20W MTL vaping and give it a top up charge immediately when it gets low - but this hardly convenient and when it dies I'll bin it and never buy another lipo mod. I have a lot of external battery mods that don't need this pampering and will all (probably) be alive and well long after my final lipo mod has gone to landfill.

I have no real objection to pod tanks - if they can give the same flavour as a stock coil tank at half the price that is a good thing. But building a mod that can only house a pod is fucking ludicrous, when the coils are discontinued the entire device is junk. Yes you can buy 510 adapters for them - which are held in place by magnets... Personally I would prefer a solid connection rather than something that depends on magnets and would never consider using any tank that I cared about on a magnetic adapter. Personally I think anyone who buys a pod mod and a 510 adapter so they can run their favourite RTA on it is a sandwich short of a picnic - it won't end well.

Many pod mods also feature shit battery voltage output boards which they very carefully don't mention in the specs - these mods are all total shite. Please don't buy them or it will just encourage them to make more.

Cheap pod tanks can be a good thing, but they should go the route that Voopoo took with the dual 18650 Argus mod - use a mod with a solid 510 and give the pod tank a separate screw-in catch cup instead of designing the mod to enclose the tank. If the coils leak the juice sits in the cup instead of being held in the top of the mod and finding its way down to the board. If coils are discontinued the mod be used without relying on a nasty adapter held with magnets and can carry on being used as normal. You could buy an RBA head to use in the pod, but if you are going to go into rebuilding it makes more sense to me to buy an RTA as RBA heads are a compromise that seldom give the best flavour - if you do you'll probably realise the stock coils were mediocre in comparison and you've been pissing away your money.

I think pod systems are shit, but you probably already guessed.

A market-driven society is lead by consumer demand.
Consumers desires are artificially triggered by novelty and advertising, used to maintain the production machine.
But also the desire to improve and experiment is fundamentally human and is what leads to discoveries and progress.
The mechanism that reveals really innovative from fruitless products and decides which routes are valid and which ones lead to nowhere is user information and knowledge.
Hence the importance of forums such as POTV to share experiences and raise general awareness.

Apes, let's rise to the challenge, ha ha!

Im all for a boycott - sadly as large a forum as PoTv is - it is peanuts compared to the several million uk vapers we would need to convince

Well, it took one outraged black lady refusing to give up her seat in a bus in Alabama a century or so ago to trigger a movement that led to the end of state-endorsed segregation.

I am not really putting the two issues on the same historical level! I am not also advocating a boycott. I am talking about promoting awareness and informed opinion. I am glad you started this conversation.
