PG / VG Percentages

Hi All

General question when mixing, what percentage do you go for and why.

Most pre-mixed I have seen are 70/30 PG

A shop I know keeps using a selling point of his mixes are 50/50 PG

I know PG is the throat hit and VG is the vapor result. So I would assume 50/50 is best. But I am happy to learn otherwise.

It all depends on what you like. There's no right or wrong. I prefer 50/50 tho.

PG is not the throat hit.

Nioctine is the thoat hit. PG makes the juice thinner so more of the nicotine is vapourised which increases the throat hit sensation. Also VG soothes the throat a little so masks some of the throat hit.

The Chinese e-liquids Hangsen Dekang Liqua etc etc all use 80/20 PG/VG or 70/30 PG/VG.

The main reason is that PG carries more flavour than VG. (What is actually happening is that PG juice is thinner so wicks, and vapourises much more easily, and the more liquid that's turned to vapour the more flavour the user experiences) Which means that they can use lower flavouring % in their liquids to keep the costs down.

Which percentage to go for when making your own is entirely down to personal preference. I found that 60/40 PG/VG worked best for me though some of my favourite e-liquids are 50/50 and some of my favourite e-liquids are 70/30 there isn't a 'better' ratio it depends on the flavour in question and the person vaping it.

the more VG you use the thicker the vapour that's produced, the throat hit is a little smoother and the flavour is a little muted.

I tend to stay below 60/40 for my mixes as higher PG than that results in large zits appearing,that loiter for ages pretending to be un-squeezable before vanishing again.

all my DIY mixes are 60/40 but i use Pure VG rather than Dliluted AG ( which i have too ) . if im using the AG i'll make a 50/50 mix
