What's new

pro tank 2 shorting out.

I've got 3 pt2's I've not had any problems yet apart from slightly lacking flavour at times - are the evods vastly superior in terms of flavour @breakbystealth

Sent from my HTC One X using Planet of the Vapes mobile app

first off my pt2 was better flavor but now i feel the evods are to be fair. i think this may be down to the problems i have been having with the pt2 but not sure.

PT2s can short out if the heads not centred and screwed into the base properly. When you rebuild them it can be easy to get the post on 'off centre' so when you screw the rebuilt head into the base the centre part of the post can get close enough to the threading (post is positive, threads are negative) and voila a short.

Check to see the head in the base has the centre post properly in the centre away from the threads after you rebuild them and you should reduce the shorting out quite a bit.

just a thought, if its not shorting then it will fire up on the svd as the button is green not red and i can hear it burning. its just not giving off any vapor

Right i have changed to and old coil for experimental purposes and its working fine now?????
the coil is running at 2.6 so im gonna try another one later at 1.8 and see how we get on. this is very strange!!!

If you're running the head on a VV or a VW mod like an SVD what resistance the coil is doesn't matter a huge amount. If you set it to 8watts you get 8watts regardless of the coil resistance. higher resistance coils have a little more lag time between you pushing the button and it getting up to temperature. It'll vape a little differently on different coils due to wick coverage but it's not a night and day difference by any means.

The biggest difference is the batteries go flat faster with a higher res coil.

If some heads are working and some aren't then I reckon it's the centre post shorting out on the base because of your build. you also needto be careful when you wrap coils for a PT/Evod that the coil is neatly centred. If any part of the wire is touching the metal piece that it sits in then that's a short. It's also quite easy to build a coil that's not touching and doesn't short, and move the wicks enough when you replace the top cap to cause a short.

I have the same problem with a Protank 3, I have abandoned it now in favour of an Anyvape Aspire BDC. It is a design problem with the little silicon grommet that the centre contact pin sits in, it takes very little to loosen this so much that it can move enough to start shorting - I was having to clean the coils rather too often because of the Johnson Creek VG juice that I was using. Also now abandoned, I loved the Silverthorn, but the stuff wrecks coils.
