Pro vaping article

Great that they are promoting vaping but as for banning smoking outside in smoking areas - just stop it!! give up trying to ban smoking everywhere! It seems that they have a victory then they all sit down and try and come up with where they can campaign to get it banned next!!

Instead of trying to get smoking banned why not extol the virtues of vaping as a cessation tool rather than demonise smoking. Most smokers are adults and are aware of the dangers *sigh*

On a side note - I work in an FE college and have noticed a marked decline in youngster smoking over the last few years. Last year was the most noticable.

I'm glad a Public Health organisation has finally recognised e cigarettes as a positive solution, and it's being talked about in big publications! Check out the Guardian:Promote e-cigarettes over harmful tobacco smoking, say experts | Society | The Guardian

I think it's a good thing to ban smoking, but then again I'm not a smoker. Second-hand smoke is harmful, and you're right adults are aware of the dangers, so why do they continue to smoke? Smoking is responsible for 86% of all cases of lung cancer in the UK. CANCER!

I'm all for consumer choice, but I think the majority outweigh the minority when it comes to tobacco, and everyone would be better off without cigarettes. Why doesn't everyone quit or vape?

As a non-smoker you will never understand the grip that cigarettes have on an addict. If stopping were that easy then there would be no smokers anywhere.

Where did you get your figures that 86% of lung cancer is caused by smoking? Very minimal googling took me to the cancer research site where they show these statistics:

Experts agree that tobacco is the single biggest avoidable cause of cancer in the world [1, 2]. Smoking causes over a quarter (28 per cent) of cancer deaths in the UK and nearly one in five cancer cases [3, 4].

They quote 28% which is a long way from your 86%. If you are going to quote facts then make sure they are accurate.

I may now be a vaper rather than a smoker but I will defend my right to make the choice every time.

I have to agree with magnolia. I was smoking for 10 years before my 1st attempt at stopping... And it took nearly a further 5 for me to be completely cig free.

It was hard, i knew about the risks of them but that never entered my mind every time i lit one (and i did anything upto 30 times a day).

I knew in my head i wanted to stop but its like having a devil on one shoulder and an angel on the other.

Im not one of these ex smokers who wont go near anyone with a cig or who tells people they are bad for them, its their choice! But i will support ANYONE who decides to stop by whatever means works for them

Good news vaping is getting more and more positive light. I'm very open to any research one way or the other on vaping, but right now, nothing tells me its as bad or worse than smoking, therefore it is better. Until this is proven wrong, it should be shouted from the rooftops as a great way to stop smoking.

The 86% was LUNG cancer specifically, not cancer in general. I've read that around 7% of people get lung cancer, so thats around 6% of people who get lung cancer from smoking.. thats still a very large number of people.

Never heard of the Royal Society for Public Health, until now. Princess Margaret will be turning in her grave.

I wish that these do-gooders would just ban PEOPLE!. I soooooooooooooooo want to be alone!

Pubs are in danger of becoming friendly & sociable, banning smoking in the gardens could be the final nail in the coffin. I long for the days when all the animals came out at night & enjoyed the crack, drinks, smokes & drunken fun. Time for some devolution i say.
