Protank leaking

Hi all

A few days ago I was puffing away when I realised I got some juice over my hand. When I checked, the Protank I was using had somehow leaked from the bottom as the bit on my mod that it screws into had got juice in it and it had run down the mod onto my hand. At the time I thought nothing of it, thinking it was a one-off but it just happened again. I'm pretty sure its coming out of the bottom centre pin thingy, anyone have any idea why this is happening? Is it the spare wicky head bit is duff or is the Protank itself buggered?

I like the Protank for its ease of use and especially because its so easy to clean, just unscrew, rinse, dry and go, are there any other tanks out there which are just as easy to keep?

Thanks in advance!

If you let it sit not attached to a mod, and not being vaped does it still leak?

When you were vaping it was it floody/gurgly before it emptied it's contents down the side of your mod?

I get the same sometimes. Three reasons (depending on time):

1. Gap around the wick. If you remove too many flavour wicks, the wick's too skinny, or it has squished too much (or the wee squidgy cap/the stick that sits over the coil* is loose) it leaves too much gap around the wick, juice floods over the coil and out the bottom along the centre pin. Stuff in more wick or replace the coil/other bits and make sure everything's seated snug.
*Check my official terminology, I so pro it hurts!

2. Low joose alert! Once the juice level gets down near the bottom, it tends to get gurgley, and after a while that seems to start causing leaks. Blowing it clean and refilling solves it if that's all it is.

3. Coil kamikaze. When it gets too gunged up - especially if like me you gorge on dark, thick, sweet juices - it seems to wick more juice than the coil can 'burn', so the excess liquid sooked in can only go one way. Clean or replace the coil, good to go again.

No, it only seems to happen during the act of taking a puff.

Not that I remember this latest time, but it certainly did become gurgly at least once.........it's also happened once when juice was low and once when it was half full.

You have a pressure problem.

Have you 'blown it out' after filling it? (turn tank upside down not connected to a mod, hold some paper towel over the end and blow until no more liquid comes out of the 510 connection)

You don't 'need' to do this after filling a PT but it helps. ProTanks (and other similar bottom coiled tanks, evods/Davides etc) work by using pressure to regulate the flow of e-liquid to the wicks. inside that post there is air and the air pressure stops the entire contents of the tank from flooding into the wick.

Same way as if you took a drinking straw and put it into a long tall refreshing glass of G&T then the straw will fill with liquid, but if you put your finger over the top of the straw then the air pressure in the straw will stop it filling with liquid.

If too much liquid gets into the coil at any point it disrupts this air pressure thing and it'll flood and shortly after leak out of the bottom.

As everyone knows, leaky bottoms are not good.

Like Skitty says there are a lot of things that can cause a PT air pressure to stuff up which leads on to flooding and gurgling. Check those, and also blow the tank out after you fill it and it shouldn't leak anymore after that.

I've never blown it out, never even knew I had to! So, just to make sure I have this right, I fill it, assemble it and blow through the connection end?

Thanks again for helping BTW, I appreciate it!

No.

Fill tank and reassemble. Wipe mouthpiece with paper towel (you don't want a mouthful of condensation, or juice that you missed with and got down the centre post) hold paper towel over the 510 connection end and turn tank upside down.

Blow through the mouthpiece until no more juice comes out of the 510 connection and you're all set.

You turn the tank upside down cos if you blow it out full of liquid the right way up then all you're doing is forcing more and more liquid into the coil which isn't what you want. You're trying to form an air bubble inside the centre post and get rid of any liquid that's in there. The only liquid you want near the coils are what gets there through the wick.

Ah right, gotcha. Apologies for being so dim and thanks for taking the time to explain it again. Much appreciated.

No probs.

It's not being dim, it's not something that comes intuitively and helping people get the best out of their kit is good times :)

I read a lot (and watch a lot of vaping vids) I'm really just passing along what other people have taught me already.

I just did as you said and not one drop of juice came out. It's vaping as it should. Mind you, that was after rinsing the whole lot out last night and leaving it to dry.

Should I blow it through occasionally as a matter of routine, or when it gets low on juice, not let it get low? Anything I can do to prevent a repeat?
