Pub chain encourages ecigs

I'm all for pushing vaping and educating, but I know fine well the image that this will give off about vapers to anyone of any political standing and to be honest, we're trying to lose that image as much as possible by not being grouped with smokers. I'm not sure if this is a good direction for vaping to take despite it still being support none the less! Just my 2p.

I couldn't disagree more. This is fantastic news. 6000 pubs guaranteed to be ecig friendly is a step forward in my book. It may be Nicolites and a cigalike company. So what. Image? Fuck worrying about the image. I vape regularly in my local and I'm all for normalising Vaping in adult environments where it's permitted. This has made my day :)

I'm not bothered about the image they use as I started on a Cig-a-like and it lead me toward better things. So good on them but I know what your saying Tutterz

The truth is most smokers look for something that most resembles what they used. That has been the story from the start and I cant see it changing. With thousands of pubs becoming open to Vapers, they will be more exposed to those using second and third generation ecigs. This can only be a good thing. Amongst so many stories of pub chains banning Vaping of any description because they refuse to educate staff and so on....this is great news

I agree with Mark in that a lot of switchers look for cigalikes as their first port of call quite often before moving to more powerful kit. The fact that a large pub chain has seen the positives rather than enforcing the negatives may actually lead to a wider takeup from those who have been thus far ignorant to the quite obvious benefits to vaping in a pub environment.

With more people doing it and less businesses opposing it will be a difficult sell for the MHRA to try and implement and enforce their medicine style restrictions - or they face a staggeringly massive backlash

Mark I was referring more to the stereotype that spend all in the day pub blowing their dole money on rollups and fruit machines while supping their cheapest lager, not the fact that it's cig-a-likes lol.

You have to take into account common courtesy as well though, people have gotten used to smoke free enviroments and how long is it going to be until theres that one vapehole sat in the corner blowing a weather front across the room, or using a juice that smells like the inside of a badgers arsehole and people start complaining? Smoking hasn't been normal anymore for the past 8 years from what I can remember, and that seems to be the main reason behind pushing for bans by political figures.

And that's what I mean about image, in modern day society smokers are tarted up as shiny heroin addicts with a longer shelf life yet an equally as miserable fate. It's no longer a social norm amongst non smokers or those in medical professions who in turn, most other figures of authority listen to. I feel that something like this is lumping us back into that image due to the targeted audience. In the end it all comes down to politics and class based preferential treatment which unfortunately we have no control over.

Shame pubs are mostly open plan now, I remember the old tap room which was more suited to the smokers and the general bar open to either. Bring back the TAP ROOM for us Vapours ;)

I do know where you are coming from and I accept that smoking hasn't been normal for years in pubs. Of course it hasn't. However if we timidly accept that using our ecigs in pubs may not be acceptable for some reason linked to being lumped in with smokers as you put it, then are we not accepting the stupid argument that we are normalising smoking? The exact opposite is true.

Pubs are adult environments. Sure people have become used to not seeing smokers. We ain't smokers :)

Respect for others is another issue. In my pub, if someone complained about the smell, they would be advised to find another pub. It's a street pub and doesn't serve food. There is no garden. Smokers have to stand on the street. They would rather I stay in with my ecig and buying beer which is probably the motivation behind this announcement and shows that some establishments at least see a financial benefit to the pub itself to allow drinkers to use ecigs.
