Hi Guys...

I posted this question over at ECF but am posting it here too...

I'm still rather new to rebuildables (about a month) so please bear with me..
I have a fogger v4 and a trident v2 (clone). Both of them are set up as outlined below. I also should mention that the trident has its dual airholes drilled to 3mm (from 2.5mm i think).

Trident V2: Dual coil, 8 wraps of 28g Kanthal A1, (inner) coil diameter is 3mm. Comes out to about 0.94ohms.
Fogger V4: Dual coil, 9 wraps of 28g Kanthal A1, (inner) coil diameter is 2.5mm. Comes out to about 1.2ohms.

Now, when I vape the same juice (50:50) blend, 6mg nicotine, on a Hana clone @ 23watts, without doubt the trident v2 puts out a bigger cloud. But the throat hit is mild and 'just nice' for me. In the fogger v4, with airhole wide open, @ 23 watts, the throat hit is so strong that I can't vape it! Bringing down the power to 15 watts, still very strong but I can manage about one draw. Bring it even lower, at 13 watts, and I manage (barely) to vape it.. But at 13 watts, vapor production is quite low.

So, my first question is, why the drastic difference in throat hit (i'm doing lung inhale btw)? I think it is because the trident has (much) more airflow and this keeps the coil and the whole build cooler when taking a hit. The fogger on the other hand has reduced airflow (quite a lot compared to the trident v2), and add that with the small build deck and the fact that everything is closed in a small chamber, I believe that the coils are getting too hot and this is causing the throat hit to be very strong? Is this the case? What do you guys think?

My second question is, how do I get the fogger to perform as smooth as the trident v2? Don't get me wrong, the vapor production is there almost on par with the trident, but the throat hit is too strong for me. What should i do? I can't go too low with the power on 28g kanthal with 9 wraps, they hardly heat up enough to produce enough vapor for a decent throat hit. Should i go with a higher ohm build using higher gauge wire, say 30g kanthal and possibly around 2-2.4ohms?

Any suggestion guys???

More airflow and less voltage on the Trident, will be smoother.

I don't see why you can't just lower the wattage on the Fogger?

When i lower the wattage of the fogger to say about 13 watts, which is very low compared to the 23 watts that I'm using for the trident, i still find it harsh on the throat to vape, not to mention the vapor production is very very low, even my aerotank can put the fogger to shame..

And to answer your question, yes, I can lower the wattage on the fogger and vape it, say 11 watts.. but there is so little vapor that I don't see the point in vaping it. Flavor too is hardly there at that power level..

I'm just trying to understand this whole thing and try to find a solution i guess.

Have you tried taking the airflow ring off on the Fogger?

The build will have less surface area but will be pushing a higher voltage.

Yes thats true.. Could it be the particular juice? The reason I ask is because, I have another juice thats supposed to be 80vg (although the liquid is not as thick as 80vg juice is supposed to be), but its at 12mg, and its smoother on the fogger than on the trident (its just too harsh!)

If it's 80vg and thinner it's probably diluted with distilled water.

You general consensus is that you don't want to drip over 6mg. It's probably not the juice.
