Hi All,

I recently got into the usual argument about vaping and how it's untested etc etc.

Whilst the person I was arguing with conceded that vaping was safer than smoking she pointed out no-one she knows has stop vaping after quitting smoking and the whole point was to stop completely.

Now I had to concede she was right that if the aim was to give up, I don't know anyone who has quit nicotine completely, I accept a few on here may vape 0mg.

Does anyone know of anyone who has used vaping to quit smoking and then quit vaping.

I think there are two camps - those that want to give up, and those that want to use a safer alternative to smoking. The vast majority of forum members probably fall into the latter category. It stands to reason that those wanting to quit completely wouldn't be particularly active on a forum, which tends to be more of an "ongoing habit" type thing.

I took up vaping to address the hideous chest infections and asthma I had. I personally have absolutely no intention of giving up (at the present time ;)). My aim has been achieved. I am completely comfortable using nicotine recreationally. The benefits of vaping far outweigh the negatives from my personal experience.

Three years plus without a chest infection or using dual inhalers every day is the only proof I need to reassure myself that the damage being done, if any, is miles less than it would have been if I had continued smoking tobacco.

Vaping definitely offers users a brilliant thing that no NRT treatment does - the freedom of dose reduction by the user over whatever time period they want. I started on 24mg juice and have gradually reduced it to 10mg over the years. I will probably go lower in time.

Who knows? I might even kick the nicotine completely in time. I do know that I can go hours without vaping where I would be sweating if I didn't smoke for longer than an hour.

:D

Nope. Vaping is a different thing entirely to smoking esp. once you get off the egos/ce4s etc. The only commonality is nicotine and if I was worried about that I'd probably be worried about coffee, chocolates and alcohol too, not to mention various nicotine-containing fruits and vegetables. Unless we are preparing for judgement by powers unseen... btw, are we?

I started vaping to improve my health and get off of the stinky sticks- it has been the only form of NRT that worked completely for myself. Since the day I quit the coffin nails 18 months ago I havent so much as had a puff of a cigarette, same can't be said for the other forms of NRT on the market. Initially when I first started vaping I thought I would quit vaping after being smokefree for 6 months, but that never happened!

Can go hours without vaping with no effect on my mood or personality. I even went a whole day without vaping just to prove a point to my missus that I don't particularly need nicotine- yet I still won't vape 0mg juice so there is definitely a part of me that needs it in some form!

Have no intention to quit vaping in the forseeable future, if at all. I love it far too much.

Here's where I am with my vaping, at the present time.
I switched to vaping, as an alternative to smoking, to move away from traditional smoking and it's increasing impositions - Smoking legislation. I like to do what I like, when I like, whenever possible and had no intention of being relegated to "smoke huts" or feel the indignation of buying ciggies from behind a closed cupboard door. I have never looked upon my vaping as a quitting aid or as a healthier option.
The nicotine levels of my juices have dropped, over time, but not out of a desire to lower my nicotine dependency, I just tailor my juice to suit my more modern ,and efficient, vape gear. I reckon that I'm still absorbing the same amount of nicotine as I always have done.

I'll no doubt continue as a vaper for as long as my freedom allows. If the very worst happens and I feel that my ability to vape freely becomes restricted by legislative penalties, I will, bit by bit (once all of my stash has been depleted) pack in vaping altogether. I could, of course, continue to vape under the shackles of legislation, but that's just not me.

As an aside to the thread, but linked to my previous sentence, I feel that keeping the common man "under control" is the main reason behind any proposed vaping legislative restrictions, but under the guise of "health". Those with the power, have an aversion for it's populace to be able to use a "loophole" to escape the chains. The biggest insult to a legislator is having it's control and authority undermined. 2,000,000 people living outside of our control?!!! Damn! We can't allow this to happen!

Some will vape to quit smoking and then drop vaping after, some will use vaping as a safer alternative to smoking, some will use vaping alongside smoking to reduce their amount of daily cigs, some will vape just because they want to vape.

Nothing wrong with any of the above as long as YOU'RE happy with your own choice

If you want to quit vaping and embrace total abstinence, then go right ahead. Congratulations and good luck to you.

However, to merely assume that this should be the ultimate goal for everyone is a bit narrow minded.

Not everyone wants to be totally abstinent and a lot of us are happy enough with the vastly reduced harm profile that vaping offers vs tobacco smoking.

The misguided presumption that everyone seeks total abstinence is largely a product of anti nicotine and tobacco brainwashing, that plants the seed in people's minds that anything less total abstinence somehow demonstrates weakness.

Imho, this presumption is narrow minded and the only weakness is displayed by those programmed to accept nothing less than total abstinence qualifies a person as being 'quit'.

Ive only been vaping for a couple of weeks.
I tried it initially about a year ago with a cheap market pen and the flavours on sale with it were foul so I went back to smoking.
Ive since purchased an Aspire premium kit and some decent juices from a friends own company and now im 10 days cig free and feel all the better for it!
I initially intended to use vaping as a NRT but I, like a good many others here I suspect, found in it a hobby of sorts, and now far from intending to quit vaping, I'll eventually be looking to move into the world of mods. Just as soon as I feel ive acquired sufficient knowledge as to not be sucking on a handmade pipebomb haha!

One of the things I think that changed my intentions was that there is a worldwide community feel to vaping, as is obvious by virtue of the fact that Im posting here, which seems quite endearing yet bizarre to me at the same time.
I would never have joined an online forum dedicated to tobacco smoking, and as were on the most part still blissfully unaware of any of the ills surrounding vaping, ill put it down to that.

My intention was simply to reduce the costs of my smoking as I had begun to struggle to pay for £32+ per week of tobacco. My 1st day with the vaping gear was a total success as I didn't crave a ciggy once,so I carried on with just the vaping kit & 18+ months later I have reduced my nicotine content slightly, and find I can abstain from vaping for several hours if I'm occupied doing something, with only rapidly losing patience the only obvious sign I need nicotine.I certainly don't intend to reduce my nicotine any further as I value my freedom & no nicotine causes rapidly diminishing responsibility where I'll break things or rant at people.I also find I suffer even worse memory issues(already have the attention span of a goldfish)as my cravings increase which increases the frustration thus I start to lose the plot over the slightest thing. In short,I'm anti-social without nicotine so I won't be quitting vaping regardless of ANTZ interferences.

I started vaping as means to stop smoking (which NRT/cold turkey/paired-quitting/therapy/doctors/hypnosis/religious "enlightenment" and other means of quitting failed to achieve). For the first 3 days I both vaped and smoked, after that I only vaped. Tomorrow will be 2 months since I am tobacco-free and I do not feel ANY cravings at all to have a cigarette.

During this 2 months time I went down from 18mg nicotine to 12mg and right now I feel that 12mg is a bit too much so I will be lowering down to 9mg next week. The original plan was to stop vaping completely once I reach 0mg nicotine and feel quite happy without any nicotine...but I feel that I am getting too much into vaping to actually want to quit in the end, not because of nicotine but simply because I actually enjoy it.

That being said, deciding to start vaping was probably one of the best decisions I've taken in years. As a result of vaping I already feel healthier, became more physically active, have more energy and feel calmer. I'm also having less sleeping problems. Another big thing is that stopping smoking also allowed me to greatly decrease my alcohol consumption, I went down from 4-5 cans of lager a night to about 5 cans a week (or less). I feel that I would be drinking a lot if I was still smoking.

Also people started commenting on how nice my office smells :14:

tl;dr; I smoked because I HAD to, it was an addiction. I now vape, partially because I know I still have an addiction but also partially because it is enjoyable.
