What's new

Rags monster mod need help wiring the damn thing.

gords1001 Remember, my only experience with deans has been on either 3d stunt planes, or a 1/10th Basher of a truck I had for a bit :P

Have we chosen a sacrificial dripper yet? We all know first ones gonna expire in short order choose one Rags that'll be my contribution

hahahaha xD
Well, hopefully I'll be able to get the mutation x off the manhattan clone (She's welded on bloody tight!) without snapping anything off... D:
failing that, I am having a Plumeveil clone being sent to me by a lovely member on here :)

If that fails, I'll have a look for something with Peek Insulators :P
The battery we're using is 'only' good for around 80 amps... at 8.4v... ;)

You know, I've got a theory on the insulators thing.

I suspect they will have a significantly easier time of it at higher voltage.

My reasoning is this, I don't think its radiated heat that kills them, I think its heat cause by high current and shorting in the positive pin. Raise the voltage and you lower the current running through that pin. Lower the current and you lower the arcing and shorting in the pin, so the pin doesn't heat up so much and the insulators get an easier time of it. I'll know more in a bit but maybe Chegs can elaborate on his own experiences with his own drippers and high voltage box mods.

Was thinking, as I know this is a direction a few other high voltage vapers have gone in...would a 28 / 29 mm RDA be better suited. Lots of space for some 'interesting' builds. Gives you more flexibility with coil diameter/wick also.

Wanted to contribute at least an idea :umm:.

Having melted the insulators in every one of my RDA's I've been able to get the Zenith running with its own insulator, the Mephisto repaired with an insulator bodged from a crappy 3D that wasn't getting used and the Origen clone with a piece of thick card. Since swapping to 8.4V though, I've been able to wind coils at way higher resistances(from 0.1x to 1.5+ ohms)and this has produced as good clouds without needing to drill wider holes for airflow and the vapour isn't hot at all. I did try lowering the resistance to sub-ohm at 8.4V, but anything under 0.7 ohms was just too hot to take more than mini - inhales even with 3 holes right over the single coil. My present build is about the 50 watt area, and is really strong flavoured(I'd increased the flavouring a couple percent to compensate for the extra airflow at -0.2 ohms)

I expect Raguri will still want to sub-ohm, though why he would need to at 8.4V escapes me:D

As gords1001 said though, I to reckon that 4.2v currents are killing the insulator.

I think with a larger atty (you can buy 32mm ones?) with heavy kanthal perhaps 0.5 or 0.6 mm and a shit-load of winds on a dual coil setup to bring it to around 2 ohms your going to get wicked performance!

Actually sod it, just worked out this theoretical build... soo much coil to wick contact <dribbles>

dual coil
0.5mm kanthal
3mm inner diameter
32 wraps each coil!!

@100 watts it only equals 157mw/mm2 heat flux... thats stone cold, you could push 150 watts through that easy :-) :-)

Problem is you need to push 15 volts to hit 150 watts.... oops

Anyone fancy stacking 2 lipos?

I see the new variant can do 250watts. I wanna experience that. :P
