Morning folks.

I recently thought how pointless it was to spend two quid every time a CE5 attie coil became terminally soiled, despite the frequent cleaning routine.

Compared with wiring up an iGo it's a fiddly and laborious yet rewarding (life's small victories....I know,I know) task to rebuild one of these...if you get it right that is.

Initially I used 3mm wick with disastrous results. All the juice lives in the wick, yet it doesn't wick up to the coil quickly enough. Dry hit central. Easily resolved by removing some strands.Mastering the number of wraps was a pig,and I soon learned that RY4 at 7.4 watts on a 3.7v eGo was far from a tasty experience.

It would appear a hit and miss affair compared to wiring a purpose built rebuildable. After several attempts I sussed it though. 2 ohm coil, perfect length of wick....happy days. Quick dry burn...great coil glow. Filled up with juice and fired it up......only to wish I hadn't had a shower half an hour earlier, because all I could taste was bleedin' Nivea shower gel!!!! :-)

Two lessons learnt: Silica wick is like a vampire and if your fingers smell of anything, you'll be tasting it shortly afterwards. (A two minute boil shifts it though) Those little woven silica barrel things that protect the coil from touching anything it shouldn't just start falling apart on you and are very delicate.

Ok,it's not sold as a rebuildable product...but if you've got the knowhow, why not? It's something anyone can play about with.

Just wondered if anybody else out there was doing this,at the peril of branding myself a cheapskate!!!

Any tips or techniques you've chanced upon if you've done this? (Assuming you've sunk as low as me!)

Cheers all,

Tobes

ps.I can actually afford to buy attie heads, because fags used to cost way more than all this vaping!!! ;-)

I think most of us rebuild are clero heads, why the hell not when we already have the materials laying around for are gennys/drippers etc ;)

I always flame the wick till it glows, it helps remove some of the nasty taste and "bedding in" period.
I also Flame the kanthal till it glows, makes it less springy and easier to work with.
When I wrap a coil I use the paperclip method, it prevents the coil from being to tight :)
