Russell Brand May Have Started a Revolution Last Night

The trouble is, a lot of the solutions are easy, but finding someone with the balls to implement them is not. Example: the current issue with the green taxes on energy suppliers causing price hikes so that we pick up the tab. One lot say we should abandon the taxes and focus on forcing prices down, t'other that we need the taxes. Why not keep the taxes and impose a ceiling on prices, thus ensuring that the costs of the taxes come out of profits rather than the public's pockets? How is that such an unfathomably wacky idea that it actually needs suggesting?

I've always been a fan of the idea that politicians shouldn't be paid for being politicians. If they must give up the day job to sit in government - which isn't such an unreasonable statement - then their wages should simply be a carbon copy of what they would have earned had they not entered politics, capped at X so that wankers on a six figure salary don't see it as easy money. But which of them would suggest they get less money.

Unfortunately, short of a revolution or enough politicians who aren't in it purely for personal gain getting in there through some form if sorcery, we're stuck with praying that selfish arseholes stop being arseholey for long enough to stop future arseholes from shitting on us. And it's how to make THAT happen that's the unanswerable question.

I'm hoping for a post-apocalyptic world myself, something like the original series of The Survivors combined with a loss of power as in that series I can't remember the name of. Mad Max's was too dangerous and that one with Will Smith was far to holy and dull.

A world of Digger communes, living off the land and repelling nasty types. That's the world I want.

The way it's going, it'll be more like a George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four world.

In which case I'm going to spend my time walking in the countryside and having sex with proles.

And then headfuck Room 101 by showing it that I am only afraid of fear itself.

I didn't used to like Russell Brand but now I think the guy is seriously switched on. He's speaking sense IMO.

I find it hard to see that Paxman was put in his place though. There is an obvious, genuine respect between them as can be witnessed in the interview they had 3 years ago. I think that Paxman actually agrees with him and was in fact feeding Brand the lines. Watch it again closely, watch their body language. Well done Paxman, for getting this info out there (on the beeb of all places!)

The timing is good

Roll on 5th Nov ;)

My commune will have strict entry criteria.

Your mate's application fell at the first stage. I wish him all the best with his future applications to join communes outside of Northamptonshire (which I have claimed as Independent Collective 1649) and hope that he can find peace & happiness in our brave new post-apocalyptic world.

Actually just read that back - to clarify:

The massive issue with not voting is that the 1st past the post system we have accounts for that and the post is set by the number of votes rather than a fixed figure. This is the solution IMO
