Self build battery mod "help on atty build"

Hi thanks for you reply,

You are right I do not have much knowledge on these aspects ohms law / or basic battery safety (I am a washing machine repairer)

This is the basis of my post :)

I have looked at your link to Modding Info and have found one in the link below this I feel would be best.

http://www.modmaker.co.uk/N-Channel-Mosfet-Wiring-Diagram

I now know what a MOSFET is.

Just to confirm if i follow the wiring on this diagram as is and fit the MOSFET would I need to change the switch I am using now?

I will stop using my self build mod until I have ordered a new switch If needed and a MOSFET and resister.

Also on the diagram in the link above there are 2 switches 1 push button and 1 ON / OFF selector is the 2nd on needed?

And also can I put heat shrink over the legs of the MOSFET?

thanks for your stern advice / warnings this is a learning curve for me I am used to replacing Like for Like never Design + Build
You can use the pushbutton switch you currently have, however the 2nd slide switch is a safety feature designed to prevent the mod from firing accidentally - effectively it's a firing lock out switch so it would be much safer to keep it in - causing your batteries to vent would be far more catastrophic than spending a pound or two on a slide switch. Heat shrink tubing over the legs of the mosfet is essential - those legs are pretty close together and without heat shrink you stand a fairly high risk of shorting something out, basically just follow the wiring diagram - don't try to cut corners for the sake of a Tenners worth of components (That includes both switches, Mosfet, resistor, Shrink tubing and two PTC fuses)...
