Put an elastic band round the dome piece and a thin screwdriver in the airslot and that should get it off.

I've used grippy stuff (rubberised non slip stuff) and getting nowhere. Don't want to risk scratching it. If I've cross threaded it, I'm buggered

I've been holding the base in left hand and barrel in right turning it anti clockwise yes

The knack is doing the top disk tighter to hold on the glass when you rebuild it. That gives you something more to grip.

If I get it separated I'll do that next time lol. Just feel like I spent money I shouldn't because I was impatient and now I can't bloody use it lol

The worst thing to do is get flustered and damage it, it went on, it'll come off.
