Hi guys,

I'm new here and relatively new to vaping. I have a Sigeili Zmax v2 and a Nova tank. Been loving the experience but wanted to step up to an RDA/RBA (not sure of the difference?) so got an A6 SS dripper from e-cig London. I also bought 1.00mm fiberglass wick and A1 Nichrome wire (34 awg).

I've been doubling the wick up 2-3 times so I have my coil going round 3 or 4 strand of wick (still pretty thin) and I've been winding between 4-6 wraps. When I stick it in the Zmax I get 'short' reading on the screen. I've looked hard and made sure the coil is not touching the posts or the mod and I've made sure the lengths of wire are not touching anything out the back o the posts. I tried it with one of the supplied coils and it works so it is definitely something to do with my coil or the way I've stuck it in. I've not even tried to do the 2nd coil yet.

Oh and one other thing, if it doesn’t say 'short' it says 'low load' which is what it did out of the packet. Presumably that means it’s below the acceptable resistance for the mod (i.e. impedance reading is 1.5 or less).

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Hi Fenechy. Are you sure it is awg34 wire, I'm not sure but that seems very thin and at 4-6 wraps that would give you a sky high resistance. As for the short, without a picture it would be hard for anyone to diagnose.

yeah that gauge wire... and that many wraps... youd be looking at like a 6ohm resistance or there abouts. Good luck vaping on that unless you have a car battery to power it :P

Thanks guys. I have a car battery kicking about so will give that a go... what? You were joking? Oh. Ok. Have looked at. Video and he's getting about 2.5 on 4 wraps of 0.15 so I've done the same and taken photos. Not sure if they'll upload from iPhone so here goes and if not I'll stick them up in a mo.

raise the two strands up a little more... and bring up that bottom right coil...make sure none of the coils are touching any metal.

have you got a multimeter? maybe its shorting out internally on the dripper. Check the centre pin and outside of the body without a coil in. If it bleeps or you get a reading I would say you have a short. Hope this helps.

Jimsie33 - I'm off to get a meter now. Wha is odd is that if I stick one of the coils it came with in, it is fine. Makes me think it must be my coil then. If it's the dripper, what's the solution? Kurlmestoopid - more photos following your suggestions. Pretty confident I'm clear of all metal contact. Hope pics are clear enough. Will stick in the other coil that works and upload photo ... Here it is.

Sorry, last lot of photos are of coil that works (came with ati). These photos are the adjustments I made to ensure no metal contact.
