Short Circuit help

Errmmm, I'm not cut out for this. Put the pre packed coil in and took new meter with negative on the edge and positive on the bottom connector and I get a reading of 2.4 - same as zmax tells me. Put my own coil on and most of the time the reading bounces all over the place or settles on 0.6. I've tried two coils. 1 is very short with 3 wraps and 1 had about 10 wraps. Both give the same reading! Can it be the wire I'm using? Makes no sense! I guess that is why zmax says 'short' because reading is either too low or fluctuating. Go on. Someone point out that I'm being an idiot and missing something very obvious...

I use 0.25mm, awg 30 Kanthal A1 resistance wire . And 3mm silica wick. Both from stealthvape.
I get 1.7-1.8 with 6 turns for an evod.
With dripper distance out from the posts will increase or decrease resistance. As you use more wire further out, hence higher ohm.
Coil closer less wire used, so less ohms.

Ps you don't want your coil touching the posts or sides either that will short it.

From everything you have said it would indicate the wire, have you tried metering a length of wire out before wrapping it round your wick

Hmm, I've never had this happen!
One thing I do do, is 'trim' the wire before I actually use it... Ie, make sure the ends are cut off as this could short it :)

Just one question - is the wire quite springy? If it isn't then it may not be Kanthal. Try using your meter to measure a known length, say 10 inches, which should give you a resistance of 18 ohms

Thanks all for suggestions. Spoke to someone who told me what I'm using is more intended for micro coiling and that i'd need lots and lots of wraps. I'm going to get some thicker wire and wick and try that instead. Will let you know how I go.
