I know the smell isn't the most important thing but I've mixed a few of my own juices now and so far I've been lucky in that none of them have been bad. One thing I have noticed is the smell isn't great almost chemical type or odour even after a week or so steeping. I've been mixing at around 20 to 25% with TFA concentrates. Is this normal?

do you let it breathe when you first mix it, some need a good 24 hours with the cap off, it if still smells after steeping then repeat

No not really I just shake take the lid off to have a sniff then back into my cupboard with the lid on. I'll whip the lids off for a while see if that helps thanks for that.

Personally I'm very much against breathing juices, the lighter volatiles mainly fruits will evaporate and mute from the mix. A chemically smell is usually as a result of using too much concentrate (which breathing can help to dispel). Are you using multiple TFA flavours or a single one at 20-25%? If more are you following a recipe or are you making your own from scratch? But if they vape good then just don't smell them beforehand!

Cant help having a sniff the ones ive bought have all smelt brilliant. I've been using multiples and started off following recipes but I've started tweaking them a bit and am thinking now I'm going to start trying them individually at various strengths so I can make then up from scratch. I'd read 20 to 25% was around about right but I'll try lowering the amount and leave the lids on for my next lot see how that goes.

It is a good idea to try your concentrates individually as the concentration/strength can vary hugely, even within a certain brand.

I always start by mixing about 10% concentrate with a few ml's of PG/VG (no nic) to get a feeling for the individual flavour and the strength of flavour. This will make it easier for you to combine flavours and work out your percentages required.

For example, some concentrates that I have used are strong at 4% whilst others require 20% or more to get a fuller flavour.

I can't imagine using any of TFA/TPA concentrates at 20-25% I'd hazard a guess at that's why they smell chemically. I blend at way lower %s than that and I'm a ho' for the flavour lol. Here's one of my recipes to give you an idea - this is a recipe in progress I'll add advice to myself about raising or lowering percentages or trying to add a diff flavour element as it steeps - I usually try my juices 3-4 days after mixing and then at weekly increaments to see how they develop - I makes notes about what I might change about it next time I make it as I go in eJuice Me Up's note section.

Hi thanks for that nice to hear from someone who does this professionally but also curse you I've just had a look at your site and the fruity ones are exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for can't wait to try them.

I Def been a bit impatient here a skipped what is obviously an important step. Planning to take your advice and go back to the beginning, taste them individually and see if I can get to grips with them that way and hopefully cure the smell issue by trying the other advice above.

Thanks for that I'll have a look at that and I'll definitely be lowering the % of flavouring in there but the bigger the hit the better for me too. Really thats the reason i want to start doing my own. Ive had some stuff from drpworx which is amazing stuff and looking forwards to trying the eldiablo stuff but it would be nice to male something myself thats exactly what i want.

Taking notes is something I've been doing each time I've varied an original recipe would hate to make something that is spot on for me and then never be able to get it back!! I need to be a bit more patient with it too I wait three days then crack them open but because they've tasted ok the bottles been gone two days later lol

@Yorkshirevapourman - y'know, if your juices taste fine to you then maybe you're not doing anything 'wrong'? If you're getting the result you want and the smell isn't spoiling your enjoyment of the vape then maybe it doesn't matter what anyone else says. What works for you is right for you, and that's all that counts really :)
