I generally call bread rolls, 'rolls' but there are times ...... like when discussing a sausage roll, when I would say 'sausage bap' because a sausage roll is something totally different. I also call burger buns 'buns' too. There's no rules, it's about making communication easy to understand. :)

Where I live the distinction is made by saying “roll and sausage”. Bap simply isn’t in the vocabulary here. To us it’s a daft sounding word that has no meaning.

And a bun is something completely different (see: paris bun).
