I decided to have a go at customising my potato a little with some vinyl film/car wrap samples off ebay.
I'm not convinced it looks better, but it definitely looks different!

I'd suggest not messing about with this unless you're patient!
This is probably my third attempt at getting a half decent fit on the film. It's not perfect, but it'll do for now
On the original panel stickers, there's a thickish clear layer of plastic (a bit like helicopter tape) over the actual graphic film which is foil backed. This foil backed bit is why the LEDs don't shine very brightly, which bugged me no end.
I thought the thick clear layer was the protective film people had mentioned, but peeling it back to investigate buggered the graphics, so I just ripped it all off and started again.
Luckily the thick, clear layer forms quite a good template to draw round on the new vinyl, then just cut out carefully with a sharp craft knife and a ruler. The rounded corners are a bit of a bitch to get right by hand.
The LEDs are SUPER bright without the stock film on, so I ended up using 2 layers of red frosted headlight tint film to get the red colour, then a final layer of black frosted headlight tint over the red layers.
The red display the part I'm most happy with TBH, reminds me of those early calculators my dad had in the 80s!
The green chameleon (green to purple) carbon fibre effect vinyl is a bit uninspiring I suppose, but it's cheap enough to replace and try again. If I can ever be bothered lol
