Hi everyone

My smok alien decided yesterday to smoke loads more than I wanted it to!! I had smoke coming out of the trigger handle the smell of burnt electrical components! And I was in a car with my family I thought the thing was going to explode!

So here is what happened
4 batteries all charged the night before on a charger as we are going away for the weekend, on the journey to where we were going I decided to charge the batteries I was using via a car charger and the USB cable and puff almost up in flames?

I can now no longer close the door on the smok as the spring connected is fried !!

All items were less than 2 months old, all batteries are Samsung

Scared now to use the 2 batteries in a new mod I had to buy

Any thoughts

Cheers

My guess would be charging it through the car. Smok Products are not the biggest fans of been charged through the device anyway. Afraid the board is probably toasted.

With regards to the batteries, how do they look? No marks on either terminal? Wraps still all undamaged? Personally, I wouldn't run the risk and would replace.

The second I plugged it into the car it started to burn!

Batteries all in perfect condition I'm going to go buy another charger as I thought I'd get by via USB as I don't use it that much while out... will the potential bad batteries show anything on the charger?

Cheers

Is it worth me contacting smok? As I said it's only a few months old!

Do not use the Smok mod. It's buggered, hope you have a backup?

It is certainly worth contacting Smok though I wouldn't expect too much success. They will probably blame cable, batteries, power source etc. Also have the hassle of returning it to China, waiting... waiting... to be told the above.

If the batteries are showing no sign of damage, odds are the board burnt out (Failed solder, failed component etc) before the batteries could be damaged. If they appear to charge ok, showing correct voltage and are in top condition visibly they are probably safe to continue using. Just solely charge through a dedicated charger for a while to be sure.

You will certainly be needing a new mod. If you put up some requirements, many people here be able to give you some good recommendations including mods that are safe to charge via USB.

Sorry bud, it's a pain in arse but sadly these things happen.

Look on bright side, no injuries and no damage apart from to mod. If batteries had gone we would be having a very different conversation!

Did you get another Alien or something else?

My AL85 really didn't like being charged through USB....

Always charged my batteries on an external charger since then.
