2 x 18650 batteries are charged and inserted the correct way, and battery cover is properly clicked shut.
Clicked fire key 5 times to turn it on.
Pressed the front button and the screen lit up; pressed again and the screen unlocked, so I can access the menu etc and have scrolled through that changing settings etc.

What I can't do is get it to actually fire up. I've watched a tutorial online, and it suggested there's an age verification screen that shows up on first usage, and once you click that, you're good to go, but I haven't seen that age verification screen at all.

I suspect until I go through that, it simply won't work. Any ideas? It's probably something really simple and I'm being an idiot, but I can't figure it out.

Okay, got it to work after I increased the settings. Got a lungful of nasty, so I need to play around with it more.

There's a lot of moisture coming out of the airflow (I suspect) and dripping down onto the screen, and also where the tank screws into the mod. I've tightened this up. It doesn't fire up until I increase the wattage to 50, and the whole unit's very hot in my hand. What am I doing wrong?

It's the pre-installed 0.17 coil. Preheat is set to Soft. Bottom left it says 0.19Ohms (changed this to 0.17). Bottom right says 0.00V (do I need to do something with this?). Watts set to 50. It's very hot and spitty.

I did read your review, thank you - it's one of the reasons I bought the Species :)

The mod should not be getting hot at 50 watts so somethings definitely wrong, if it's leaking that's down to the tank so i would strip that down and start over ensuring it's sealed, before you pop it back on the mod, grab some kitchen towel and blow hard through it to see if it's still leaking, this will also clear any liquid from the airflow and should stop the leak.

It should auto detect the coil but to be sure, before you put the tank back on press the fire button a few times, when you put the tank on you should get the 'new coil' screen, select yes via touch screen.

Set the wattage at the lower end of the range marked on the coil and ease it up.

Finally make sure you are in Wattage mode and normal preheat.

It's Smok, bin it and get something else.... I'm sorry you wasted your money.

Don't manually change the coil value, if it comes up with 0.19 then leave it at that (assuming you've followed the new coil procedure).

Don't worry about the Voltage, this is info only and nothing you change, it increases as you fire it.

A screen shot will help me spot if anything obvious is wrong.
