Smok Species - can't get it to work

I started on Innokin T22Es, moved to Coolfire IV, then Eleaf iStick RIM - maybe I'm trying to run before I can walk, but I was after the decent flavour that everyone seems to get but that I don't. I thought going for a higher spec kit would do that. And thank you - I appreciate the sympathy because I seem to be just an idiot with a bank card

I'm MTL - don't really know how you DTL. but pretty sure I don't want anything that hot getting too far in! Maybe this is just the wrong kit for me and I should stick to something simpler - it's very unpleasant, and after a few presses, too hot to hold in my hand. I seem to getting liquid rather than any vapour. Bought it direct from Smok Tech via Amazon, but it says the order was fulfilled by MKWS (100% feedback). Maybe I need to do that authenticity thing on the little card in case it's a clone.

This kit is about as far away from MTL as you can buy. It sounds like it's completely unsuitable for you to me.

We all make mistakes with stuff, so don't feel bad.

Took the tank off, held it in a handful of tissue, and all the juice is now gone from the tank even with the airholes closed. Think I need to strip that down and reassemble it to make sure it's tight. Also an opportunity to ditch the really repulsive chai latte juice I put in.

You might be right, Simon. Maybe the big boys are playing a game I don't need to get into. It's like putting a 5 year old on a 17 hand stallion and letting them loose. Fooled by shinyitis again!

That's 100% the problem, it's a DTL kit, to DTL you inhale as you vape rather than after, trying to vape then inhale will give you a poor vape and exactly as you described, this will taste too hot, flood and generally be wrong for MTL.

Getting the right tank for you is the important bit, the mod doesn't really matter too much.

I'd recommend the Innokin Zlide, you can use it on the coolfire or even this Smok mod, there's no reason to keep buying mods. I have to go out now, but don't worry between us we'll sort you out.

Give DTL a try, I enjoy MTL & DTL but before you do, what juice are you using?

You are doing the right thing and asking questions when you are struggling, I've made plenty of newbie mistakes, rather than struggle I simply asked on here until things sunk in.

The Eleaf iStick Rim is also mainly a DTL kit also which does give great flavour, but if you MTL it you will also get a wrong vape from it.

When I started vaping I made the opposite mistake, I was sold an MTL setup but I DTL'd it and got dry hits and a horrible vape.

DTL in a nutshell, think of breathing through a straw, so breath in while firing, the vape won't be hot or spitting, it might feel alien at first but after a few tries you should get used to it, if you are using high nicotine thinner juice it might be a bit too harsh on your throat, 70/30 VG/PG is ideal and anything below 12 mg (I use 3mg).

I took it to the local vape shop and he said the issue was my cheapo 50/50 juice. I've put some 70/30 3mg in and that's a bit better but still leaking. I'm struggling with the wide bore tip. I think it's the tank I have an issue with, so I'm better off with my trusty Aspire Nautilus Mini on the Coolfire. I've tried the mod with other tanks on 75W and it's fine; not hot at all. Just tried DTL with it with Heisenberg and I think I could get used to it; very different to MTL. Thanks for your help, guys On the plus side he sold me some Golden Ticket Chocolate Milk which is gorgeous.

I have plenty of Smok kit that has worked flawlessly.
