Hi. I'm Rick and I am a smokeaholic, it has been 30+ years since my last smoke free day.

:imwstupid

Ok, now that I have admitted I have a problem and located what I believe is the solution, I guess I need advice.

When I started smoking it was not only “cool” but no one knew there were any hazards. Hell they smoked on TV, doctors smoked in their offices, smoking was just another way of life. Kick me for being part of the crowd because I just joined right in and cigarettes have me by the &@!!$ now.
:whipping2:

My motivation? Family members lost to cancer or lung disease, Mother, Grandfather, 2 Grandmothers, and an Uncle. But I keep going until now. I love the taste of a non-filtered cigarette. Last month we had a scare when doctors found a lump in my daughters throat, thankfully it was a benign tumor but my son is now hinting for me to quit. I love my kids and I guess this is the least I could do. So I am here.

Honestly, I only registered so I could search the forums but doing so has provided me with even more questions. So off I go to the posting rules page and follow this with some questions. But I am happy to find many here have quit smoking doing this. I am sure it will be tough at first.

Thanks for having me.

Hi @FilterLess and welcome to the Planet. Congrats on coming to terms with what you need to do, that is a significant start as it is never too late to quit. It may not come easy but there are plenty on here who will give you moral and technical support along the way.

:welcome1: FilterLess good to see you gonna make the swap from stinkies to vaping ..dont be afraid to ask any questions ..plenty of folk on here to help out ...vape on

Hi Rick and welcome.

You have found the right place here, two months ago I was just like you. I'd been smoking for 21 years, which was well over half my life. Even seeing my mother in intensive care after having a third of her lungs removed didn't stop me smoking, then I picked up my first pv and I haven't touched a cigarette since. I don't miss smoking at all, not even tempted and I love my new hobby.

The Wiki section on here is great, and there is always somebody who can help with any question you can possibly come up with. There are loads of threads in the newbies section on how to choose a beginners kit, I went with a couple of ego batteries and CE5 clearomisers, which I still love now.

Good luck!

Hello and welcome, you have just made the best decision in your life, and you will wonder why it took so long. Good luck, and do not be afraid to ask questions.

Hi Rick

Sorry to hear about your losses.

There are many people on POTV who will support you to help you quit the fags and answer any questions you may have .

At first vaping can appear to be complicated but there are ways to keep it simple and satisfying. I was a smoker for 22 years and on 20 a day but thanks to vaping I have not smoked for a long time and i have never looked back.

I may not be the best person to advice you on kits and liquids but I am sure you will get loads of the POTV vetrons responding and helping you quit while keeping it nice and simple.

Good luck mate

I was a roll-up smoker for 35+ years, always the same brand of tobacco as I would tell people "I like it though" when offers of a filtered cigarette were declined.I bought a couple of the Ego type batteries,a few of the clear plastic atomizers & a couple of bottles of juice.Despite problems like "dry hits" ,burnt out coils @ stupid o'clock, batteries dying (not just going flat, but ceasing to work at all)and so forth,I haven't had a smoke in 6mths & not missed it one bit.I can taste my food(without it needing to be a curry hot enough to strip paint)breathe more easily & can sit in a room with a smoker & still not crave a smoke.

I have upgraded my gear from the plastic atomizers to a stainless steel rebuildable device, the Ego batteries to a variable voltage/wattage device and am now treating my vaping like a hobby instead of a habit.I've even started mixing my own e-liquids in the last few days.

The hardest part was finding a nicotine strength that cured my craving, then I started hunting for a flavour I liked(unfortunately,we only had a single shop selling a limited range of pre-mixed liquids and the Ego kits)before I stumbled on the vast array of equipment on the internet.I expected I'd only want to vape tobacco flavoured juices, but I never found one I liked so used fruit flavours as the years of smoking had ruined my tastebuds and only strong fruit flavours tasted of anything.I found it strange at first to be inhaling a fruit flavour that also cured my cravings but that soon passed. Good luck at kicking the smoking, and don't mentally beat yourself up if you can't just switch to vaping 1st go,smoke if you require it & increase the intervals between cigarettes by vaping.
