Hi all,

I'm really hoping some of you can give me some advice about the stomach issues I'm have from vaping.

I've tried vaping unsuccessfully three times now and am going for the fourth. I really want it to work this time. So anyway, here it goes:

I get a stomach ache from vaping, almost instantly, as soon as I've taken the first hit. It starts off as a bloating in the stomach, before moving into a moderate but not severe griping in my gut (I'm not doubled over in pain, just very uncomfortable). It'll last throughout the evening, even though I only vaped for half an hour or so and then I'll normally have the shits that evening or the next morning. I've spent a long time experimenting to try and figure out what is causing this. I've tried 100% VG, 100% PG, unflavoured, 100% organic flavours, flavours that don't use an ethyl alcohol base and no nicotine. I've also tried several different vaping kits. The reaction is identical every time.

I'm not a heavy smoker, I'm barely even a smoker. On average I'd say I smoke 10 cigarettes a week, and have days where I don't smoke at all, so I don't think this is any sort cessation/withdrawal thing.

What I'm hoping is for someone to come on here and say "I had the same problem, but I stuck it out for a month and the problem went away". I've searched the internet for people having similar problems to me, but generally the threads either die off, or it turns out that the person had an allergy to PG/VG or too much nic etc. I haven't really heard about anyone who got past the stomach cramps (that weren't caused by smoking cessation) just from sticking it out.

Two things that I've also thought might be related to my problem but can't really see how they'd cause this are:

I am a coeliac, so totally allergic to gluten
Alcohol fucks up my stomach in a very similiar way and I therefore I haven't consumed alcohol in years.

Whenever I try to talk to other vapers/staff in vape shops I just get a blank look. I find it hard to believe that this problem is unique to me, I guess other people its happened to just give up and don't talk about it. I recently (for unrelated, coeliac reasons) had a camera down my throat and one up the other end, a medical spit roast if you will, and my stomach and intestines were judged to be perfectly healthy.

Sorry, that was quite a long post. Any advice would be much appreciated.

hi and welcome to the planet.

well thats a new one on me as not heard that issue before.
i cant help much but youve come to the right place so hopefully someone can advise.

what strength nicotine are you using and what makes and flavors of juice have you tried.
also do you suffer with acid refux. i know someone that years ago had roughtly the same gut ache after chewing gum. his brain tells his stomach hes chewing so the stomach expects food. im wondering if it could be similar to this.
also have you asked your doctor if they have any ideas even though most of them know nothing about vaping and just go by the usual bollox they read in the press.

Does your stomach hurt when you take Ibuprofen?? Or when you drink orange juice?? If so you could have an issue with the lining of your stomach (related to celiac or acid perhaps) that something in the vape is aggravating.

If you hadn't said you get the same issue on 0% nic juices & 100% VG, I would have said its something to do with that.

Hi, welcome...the first part of your problem, bloating could be air intake then causing excessive wind build up....beyond that me not know...do you MTL or DL for the clouds bro

Have you tried 100% VG with no nic??

With coeliac you're gonna have a more touchy stomach, so an increase in the amount of nicotine from what your used to could easily cause this, and you could easily have an issue with PG & other additives in juices as well.

If I was you I would pick up a small amount of unflavored 100% VG & give that a go. (Darkstar is cheap for this)

I'll keep an eye out & see if I see anything else about this. Let us know how you get on.

:goodluck:

Thanks for the replies.

I have experienced VERY mild stomach upset from chewing gum. Otherwise I've never really had issues with stomach acid.

I think my stomach lining is ok, the procedure I mentioned in my original post didn't turn up anything strange there. I can take tablets and orange juice just fine. However there are definitely things, such as alcohol, that are fine for most people but that I cannot stomach.

I really gave the 100% VG no nic thing a go. However I will say that in between switching between all these liquids there may have been a small amount of the previous liquid still in the tank. But that's switching from 6mg to 3mg to 0mg, so that would be such a small amount of nic left as a trace.

Oh, and I did try 'gluten free' juice. From Virgin Vapors. That was the only one I could find that said gluten free......didn't make a difference though. Sorry this must sound very frustrating!

Kinda stumped.

You could try starting really slowly & seeing if you just get used to it. But if your having the same issue with just 1 puff of 100% VG, then I've no idea what to suggest.

Maybe someone else will have a suggestion.
