Stomach problems

mmm....something must go on differently for some folks....I have IBS...peppermint eliqud leaves me bloated...blackcurrant and liquorice gives me the shits....so its the flavourings that do me...as do them foods
Strange in a sense that, as peppermint oil reduces bloating but flavours in juice are not always made from what you might think! Sounds like artificial sweeteners are giving you issues, I'd avoid US juices ...

you are correct following the initial bloating I fart like fk all day....close to touching cloth at times...it would not have been a peppermint alone juice

@pigletscarf I had the same symptoms that I strongly belive were from vaping. Started happening when I got my first proper setup and was vaping constantly all day. Like you I wasn't a big smoker when sober probably 5 roll ups a day. I couldn't work out what it was the guy in my B&M said it could be PG so I switched to high VG liquids but I still got it. Like you I couldn't find anything online but I noticed I was vaping a lot of menthol. So I stopped vaping heavy menthol and the symptoms seemed to subside, whether this is just coincidence I don't know. Good luck on your quest for knowledge.

You guys are certainly right about giving up, it would be fairly easy for me. It's just that, because I can't drink, its nice to have something to relax with at the end of a hard day. Also my wife and friend's enjoy going to the pub a few times a week and smoking is part of that for me. Without it the pub is just not that enjoyable. But there is a guilt that goes along with the knowledge that this is bad for me. It would be so good if I could replace the cigarettes with vaping.

Whats odd for me is that the reaction is always the same, flavourless, no nicotene, vg, pg....always the same response from my stomach.

@krang - it sounds like you've gone through something similar. I haven't been vaping menthol though. What would be helpful would be if you tried menthol again to see if it was the flavouring or that it just got better over time. Not that I'm asking you to do this, nobody wants to knowingly make themselves ill!

I have a hiatus hernia that is completely shot so I have zero defence against stomach acid, unless I take 2 Omeprazole daily then it messes with me badly, including in my sleep.

Without Omeprazole I can't vape as it causes severe acid reflux, symptoms akin to Diverticulitis and it also messes with my hernias (Bith Inguinal hernias, one repaired and one waiting to be done)

I would seriously look again at your stomach issues as possible acid based, have a chat with your doc.

I never really thought about asking a doctor about this....I just assumed their answer would be "well don't vape then". But if the problem I'm having with vaping is the result of a deeper issue I should probably get it checked out. I think that's my next move then.

I know it may seem weird that as a casual smoker I'm not letting this go, but the thing is apart from the stomach pain I really like vaping a lot more than smoking. Wife is doing it now, which makes it all the more annoying that I can't.

Sounds more like gastritis to me. I get it, caused by winning a bet to eat 500 jalapeno peppers in a day (don't ask). I have to take Omeprazole every day.
Vaping doesn't affect it but loads of other things do.

Try vaping without inhaling. It can be done. Think of it like pipe smoking. Might work. Otherwise, chat with a GP and maybe get a referral to chat with a gastroenterologist but don't allow the gastro to insist on carrying out invasive exams, a good gastro won't need to do that and invasive exams can create new problems.

You say that you get it mildly from chewing gum? Could it be to do with the sweetners in the juice and gum that are causing you an issue? Which specific juices have you tried? Have they all given the same reaction or have the distress levels differed?

*edit* though now I see you say its the same with flavourless too. Perhaps it is the vg that you have a problem with, its happened before and that is harder to avoid since vaping pure pg would be just plain nasty.

When I started Vaping,my mate also did at same time, and he also had to stop before really starting and went back to smoking...as he also suffered like you ..one time I see him sweating profusely... He went docs and all he was told was it obviously don't agree with you...he has not vaped since....I will follow this thread out of interest and hope you find the answer...good luck mate[emoji106]
