Afternoon,

I'm having a bit of trouble with the TF-RDTA tank from smok, and I'm looking for some help with it.

I'm Using the smok H Priv mod and a brand new TF-RDTA. The stock coils are still in place and it's been working okay for the past day or so (bought it b&m on Monday afternoon).

When I went to use it this morning I kept getting a "short atomizer" error from the hpriv. I took it apart and had a look at the coils and they seem fine. I put the base with the exposed coils back on the mod and pulsed it a few times. It works every time with no errors.

When I put the tank back on top of the base, I get the same error. I thought it must be making contact with the outer wall so I took it apart again...

Again, It seems fine and brings no error when the coils are exposed. I rewicked it as tidily as I could to make sure there is no overhang to the perimeter of the base.

Put the tank back on and it worked for a few draws. I topped up the tank and low and behold "short atomizer"...

I tried loosening and tightening the complete atomiser but it makes no difference.

I have noticed that if I slacken the tank from the base - it works! But if I tighten it back down, it fails. I'm only putting it together finger tight, but I can't be slackening the tank if I want to use the thing, it already leaks enough when I try to fill it up!

Any help much appreciated!

I should add that the hpriv mod works perfectly with the tfv4 tank it came with.

I've managed to get a couple of pics of the inside of the tank where the posts sit when it's built up.

It looks like the posts are touching the inner sides of the tank and have caused some bluing to the steel.

Has anyone come across this happening with this tank or others? Would it be a return case or is it simply fixed? I could squeeze the legs together a smidge but I don't want to damage it.

I've had some success with the TF-RDTA.

I was reading some reddit posts about other atomisers giving the same error and came across a post stating that the 510 pin can be slightly too long and that the screwdriver recess on the bottom of the pin (for removing the deck from the base) was a particular issue.

I loosened the deck from the Base ever so slightly (drawing the pin and flathead screwdriver recess away from the mod) and it is working fine. I've topped it up with juice and it seems to be fine...

Hopefully someone else might resolve the atomizer short error on the TF-RDTA.

I ran into the same issue again couldn't get it working, so I took it back to the b&m shop for the guys to have a look.

I got a free replacement as no one could get it to fire once assembled. Hopefully it was just a dud and not a design issue.

The replacement TF-RDTA produced the same error this morning... Less than 24 hours in the atomizer short error is back.

I've scoured Google and found two review comments reporting the issue but no solution or confirmation of the actual root cause. Some suggest it is a short 510 connection.

Could this be the root cause? It seems strange that it fires with the chimney and tank removed from the base...

If it does turn out to be the root cause, could I fix it by using a heat sink between the mod and the atomizer? Any suggestions on a decent one would be appreciated - probably the lowest profile ones available because it's already a big tank!
