To Squonk or not to squonk?

Greetings all,

Just really looking for some recommendations and advice around squonking. I've been reading through numerous threads, forums and reviews and it has really wet my appetite.

Is it as good as they say it is? Is it better? Or just a flash in the pan? How does it compare to 'standard' dripping?

These are the questions, and I would love to hear your answers.

I look forward to your wise words of wisdom!

Cheers

Hi other Lord,
Answers in order:
Yes. Yes. Nope. Better.
Hope that helps!

Joking aside, if you already drip, you have to squonk. It's every bit as good as far as flavour and clouds (if you want clouds) go, with the added bonus of not having to take your cap off every half a dozen puffs.
In fact, I brought a standard dripper into work yesterday with a crazy build in it to show a new vaper, and spent half my day trying to squonk it and wondering why nothing was happening! I almost never use a tank anymore. It literally is almost as convenient as a tank, but all the fun of a dripper.

Many thanks, My Lord.

It does just seem super convenient having that juice on tap, with all the benefits of a rda; too many time's I have sat down, about to start dripping and realise my juice is elsewhere

I think my heart has been telling me to take the plunge, I just needed a voice of reason to justify it for my head(and my bank)

Next question would be (and I apoligise for the most cliched question ever) what would you recommend for a starter? haha

I've seen the COV Wraith and Kanger dripbox - with the latter's prices being the more reasonable (ideally like to stick to a regulated mod)

I'm perhaps NOT the best person to be making the initial response, but here goes..................

I DESPISED all things RDA. I really did, with a passion. I really couldn't see the point at all, especially because of my preferred style of vaping which revolves around mouth to lung and flavour at lower wattages than most would ever consider worthwhile.

I somewhat grudgingly tried a Squonker back in 2014 and was taken with the massive improvements on practicality that it offered over my nemesis Dripping. But I still didn't really embrace it as I was more than happy with the setups I was running which just suited my style.

Last year I became far more intrigued by the whole idea and started to look at it seriously. My first Squonker was the old Mech Kangerbox thing. It did the trick, but I was still somewhat undecided. I then bought an HCigar VTInbox and that set me on my way. Dear Friends kindly gave me a Narda RDA and the rest is history.

I guess I squonk about 75% of the day and settle down with my beloved RTAs in the evenings when listening to music, reading or watching TV.

The dripbox v1 is a great starting point, I currently have one. As is the Eleaf Pico Squeeze (basically exactly the same). Both good cheap starters that you'll keep coming back to.
Both of these are regulated but fixed, i.e. they offer a constant 3.7v output.
Then you're going to want to decide whether to go regulated or mech, and then the fun really starts.

I've heard good things about the wraith, but despite stalking them before they were released, I ended up buying a Lostvape Therion BF and never got round to picking one up.
I'm afraid I don't really use mechs, but someone'll be along at some point to help out there...it's a bit quiet in the Squonk forum today while everyone fills their boots on the TPD sales page :)

Hey Rob,

That's a great response, I suppose I share a similar experience, in that I avoided any sort of RDAs for such a while because I thought they were a 'gimmick' or inconvenient! But how wrong I was. Since purchasing my first couple only a couple of months back, they are all I use when at home and I just wish there was a convenient way they could be transported around without leaky pockets filled with spare bottles...

It would just be really nice to have the option of taking the flavour and vapour of a dripper on my daily travels

ooo yeh, I have seen a few positive reviews on the Eleaf aswell - just only concern is generally I like to DTL vape between 50-80w - hence me leaning more towards the kangerbox (which I've seen for around £30)

As of now I will not use mechs, but i said that about making my own juice, building my own coils, dripping etc etc - so I'm sure if the right one popped up I could be easily swayed

Everywhere seems quiet on the forum today. I am trying to be good with the deadline, and thought now would be a good time to integrate among the rest of the forum!

Ah ha, you must mean either the Dripbox 2 or the Dripbox 160? I have the 160, it's a decent enough bit of kit. The atomiser that comes with it is poo, but if you like higher ohm vaping your spoilt for choice really. In my limited experience, the Troll, Veloccity, Tsunami, Hastur and a load of other DTL drippers all take a BF pin for squonking.

Sorry, yeh the 160w is the one. I have heard that tank is pretty poor, but luckily I have a couple of the above mentioned rdas. How easy is it to buy a BF pin? I assume it is literally unscrewing the screw in the 510 and replacing with the BF pin? or will I need to replace the whole deck?

Nope, it's as simple as taking the old screw out and chucking a new one in.
Pretty sure you can get them without resorting to Fasttech, but I'm buggered if I can find any off the top of my head...I'll get back to you when I see them.
