Vamo Woe...

Yeah, it didn't seem to make any difference.

If I find someone with a multimeter I'm guessing that I stick one probe on the centre pin, another on the side thread (touch the two and I'm doomed I suspect!), and then hit the fire button?

I'm Waiting for the postie to deliver my Vamo V3, I hope I don't have the same problems as you. Although it does seem rare.
Check out this Youtube vid for Ego batteries & Atty testing with a multimeter.
I hope you find a solution.

Not a 100% sure but don't you get funny readings on a multimeter because the vamo pwn delivery

Howdy.
Right.
With the protank, dissasemble the head, and remove the flavour wick. On mine, it only burned making the vapor taste horrible.
Also, make sure that the wick is primed (Drop a tiny amount onto the coil itself). DON'T put the tank back on, but put the metal rod bit back on. NOW, Put it on the vamo (without the tank), put your lips to the metal pole, and then try it :)

Thought it was just me. I have "moved on" from my Tornado Tank set up to the V2 about 3 weeks ago and almost everything tastes fried unless I take it right down below 5. Have tried tanks, CE4`s , which are great on my 510 battery but not with my shinny new MOD! Have tried, with very limited success, the atomiser with the cartridge set up that I have been enjoying for the last few months with the v2 and its just not as consistent as it has been with the old set up. Camel, sorry to read about your troubles, but in a way I'm glad to hear its not just me.

Fingers crossed you'll be OK - most people seem to have no problem.....

I borrowed my neighbours multimeter and did get seriously odd readings - everything from 2.3v to 5.9v, when it was set to 4v.

I'm sick of b*ggering about with it now, so I'm going to return it and stick to my old setup. The new STV works really well on an Ego battery, apart from looking a bit top-heavy, but on the Ego battery it will stay!

Thanks for the tip, but I'm going to give up on the Protank too - the draw is just too airy for my liking, and I much prefer the Evod and Novas. I know lots of people love the Pro, but it's not for me. If anyone wants to buy it (minus the plinth, which I'm going to keep for the Ego/Nova setup), just let me know. It'll come with five brand new 1.8ohm attie heads. It's had about 4ml of juice through it and smells lightly of Banana Foster, which leads me to think I didn't wash it thoroughly enough. I'm thinking about £15 for the tank and five heads, plus postage at cost.

Maybe there's a ropy batch out there, sorry to hear you've been struggling too. I guess there's a lesson to be learned here - if you're happy with your setup, don't hanker for a better one! :hugs:

Thanks very much everyone for your suggestions, tips and advice. Much appreciated. :yahoo:

I had exactly the same thing happen to me when I upgraded to a vamo and vivi nova. The juice I loved was fine for a few goes but then just tasted burnt and nasty even on low wattage. I found out in the end I just couldnt get on with a tank and tried an rba instead. At 8.5 el toro virgina prime is amazing on the igo-l. Ive never used my vivi again.

Camel,

I really recommend getting a replacement first, before quitting the VV/VW route. In RMS setting these things kick butt, and you can experience wonders of flavours that you couldnt of before.

By the sounds of it, you do have a faulty one there, but a fully functioning unit is worth it :)

Please dont take that the wrong way, I think eGos are brilliant, and I use one for work, but I get 2 totally different tastes from the same Evod between them. :)

Could this be something to do with pulse width modulation the vamo uses?

I read somewhere that the VV egos (spinners) use a different method so they end up with smoother power output, but the vamo switches very quickly between 0 and max volts over time to achieve the overall voltage you set it at (the width of those pulses determining the overall output voltage).

I read a thread (think it was at UKVapers) where some people claimed a noticeable difference and didn't like the vamo because of this. I was sceptical myself, but when I compared both my vamos with a mechanical mod using an AGA-T - I think I might have been able to detect a very subtle difference. If it wasn't just my imagination, perhaps other people are more sensitive to it?

I think some of the itaste devices (available for not much more than a vamo at fasttech), along with the provari have a smoother power output, so if this is an issue, there are probably still options available while retaining the VV/VW function. Or if the thing about the ego spinners having a smoother output is true (not sure about that), perhaps they might be an option for VV.

P Busardo on youtube connects up the VV devices to an oscilloscope in his reviews, so if you think this might be an issue, then they may be worth a look.

But I'm guessing the most likely explanation is that you were just unfortunate and got a faulty vamo.

What I found with mine when I started using it was that after setting it to 7 or 8W, I actually burnt the wick in my atty. No matter what I vaped at or what juice I used after that, everything tasted crap. After switching to a freshh atty and lowering the watts to 6, it was a revelation
