What's new

Wanting to dip my toe into mixing ...

So I've seen people talk about testing new mixes by using a dripper to check out a new mixed flavour, before taking the plunge. What would I need for this, instead of using one of my existing tanks and possibly spoiling a new coil if it tastes yuck?

The general idea is to get a "rough" outline first of what you probably can vape
(though there are nice surprises & some "fuck me that's gross" shockers)

mix up some stuff in a 10ml bottle - use syringes to measure out flavour concentrates
(though the smaller you mix the less accurate in general but you get a rough idea....
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/15Packs-...m=163618530084&_trksid=p2047675.c100008.m2219)

if it all goes tits up - then it's only 10ml you chuck down the sink
if all OK then mix up say 50~100ml next time on something you like

DON'T MIX UP SHITLOADS without doing a small test batch

yes normally you would rinse out the tank and use a new coil
though often you can rinse n burn coils (even stock coils) and get rid of most (stock coils) taste
then vape through the rest of the old flavour a bit probably - to each their own as they say

you could get a RTA tank then making your own coil & wicking is like a penny or two
than say £1:50 for a new stock coil blah blah blah

There is not enough space/time to go into in great detail
plus if I started the site probably doesn't have enough bandwidth to cope with all my BS waffle
even then my own experience is somewhat very limited as only DIY'd since Xmas so I know fuck all really
but is ridiculously cheap long term if you decide to buy in bulk eventually after experimenting and taking the plunge

The base juice pure VG/PG mix on its own is say £3 a litre or less than 3p for 10ml (in mega bulk)
your nic is considerably more, plus tricky to source , often people buy nic shots than pure nic
(only for business)
but the flavour concentrates is where it adds up
often e-juice price is 60% to 75% the cost of flavourings blah x 3

hence most people use shortfill - base+flavour then add nic shots blah x 5

more than one way to skin a ca.... - soz bad choice of words
more than one way to DIY your own juice - just test the water/juice in small batches

Is there an art to adding the cotton wick, or just thread it round and through? I probably need to haunt Youtube for a while.

you kinda answered your own question - watch a few good vids

In "general" in my case a ex-smoker MTL RTA tank will use simple 28awg (or 27awg~29awg) Kanthal
see stealthvape for wire
muji/labo organic cotton, cut into a thin strip - research grain direction so juice flows correctly
peel a layer as most do, twist end, thread through - moderate resistance

a very general term coz everybody's moderate varies slightly - but not too loose not too tight
trim, fluff it, stuff it, wet it etc.....

VAPE IT - job done

sounds easy, but sometimes you get lucky first time but nightmares for next few attempts
eventually after half a dozen you get the hang of it
a dozen or so wicks later it is a walk in the park

some tanks are easier than others, usually you get to suss out each tank's little qwirks
after that you have nearly mastered it, or at least improved on your wick/coiling skills

again - like most stuff - go easy, small basic steps at first
learn to walk before you try to run as they say

For now, I think I'm going down the EGO EVOD + cheapo clearomizers route while I'm just testing flavours. Once I nail down the flavour families I like, then I'll mix bigger batches. Time to learn about RDAs/RTAs as I get more experienced - for now I want minimal fuss. But thanks everyone for your advice - I've made notes (literally - I am the Queen of Spreadsheets).
