What do I need to start making my own coils.

Hi everyone,
As the title says I'm looking to start making my own coils. I currently vape MTL running 1.6ohm Aspire coils in the Nautilus usually at around the 13Watt. I must admit to not being a cloud chaser (the need for total discretion at work), as I'm more focused on taste.

I use Smok Guardian II, istickTC60W and Smok XPRO BT65 with Aspire Nautilus and UD Zephyrus tanks. I have a Bauway 510 Bridgeless Atomizer and a Velocity clone (not tried yet, as it only came yesterday). I have ordered a re-buildable deck for the Nautilus (thanks to @Crewella for the info on that deck), whilst the Zephyrus is supplied with a re-buildable deck. I have ordered myself a coiling kit and cotton, but I haven't bought any wire as yet. The reason is I'm at a loss for what wire to use for my builds. To be honest, I'd like to keep it simple to start with, until my ability and confidence grow to the point where I'm ready to making more technically challenging coils.

What wire(s) would you recommend to a newbie coil maker, given the information above.

Many thanks for reading and thanks in advance for your replies.

Go to @stealthvape - They have a great selection of rebuildable stuff, the sample pack of Kanthal will get you started but for most things you'll need 0.25mm and or 0.3mm. The thinner the wire the higher it's resistance. The 0.25 will certainly give you the results you'd like in the Zephyrus and Nautilus, but wire choice does tend to be a bit personal. Some people prefer a few wraps of higher resistance others prefer more wraps of lower resistance - it depends on how you feel and how comfortable you are with the wire...

Thank you @bananas & @Tubbyengineer. I ordered the wire sample pack, the free wire and free cotton and cotton bacon v2 as well.

I noticed that along with the OCC coil for my Zephyrus I also received Ni200 0.15 ohm head. I haven't really experimented with this coil yet and was wondering under what circumstances would give the best results.

Thanks again.

The Ni200 coil is for temperature control - You use it in conjunction with a temperature control capable mod.

Thank you @pneumatus. I've bookmarked steam engine and I had a little play adjusting the parameters. To simple to be true.

@Tubbyengineer, I guess that's where my istickTC60W may come in handy then. Am I correct in thinking that TC modes require lower resistance coil(s)? My apologies for my ignorance, but when I first joined this forum I thought that e-cigs were only available from newsagents. I've come quite a distance since then (3 mods, 4 tanks 2 drippers mixing my own juice etc), but I have a hell of a lot more to learn, hence all my questions. There never seems to be enough hours in the day to learn from you all.

That's exactly what I did to start!! Good luck! :)

It's just a thought @pava, but I don't think the Nautilus RBA deck has gone down too well. The original seller on Ebay has disappeared and Gearbest have been selling them cheap ......... if you like it, I'd grab a few while you can. I can see why - IMHO there are many easier options out there, and it's only really good for those who already have several Nautilus tanks and were considering rebuiding the stock coils. The RBA deck is definitely easier than that, and I personally am OK with it, but it is bloomin fiddly and took a while to get the hang of!
