@MHL If you use a very sharp blade in a craft knife, you can get close to the panel edges but they will need sanding to get them spot on.
The trick with sanding is to make sure you don’t do it too aggressively and split the veneer.
And make sure the glue goes right to the edges of the panel & veneer - you don’t want any areas not glued down.
I used a Dremel to cut the fire button hole, and gave the panels a couple of coats of Bri Wax to protect them
