Hello some advice please, since using rta’s I’ve only been using kanthal 26awg from stealth vape making coils ranging from 0.9 to 1.4ohms , wattage from 9.5 to 11w. I would like to try Ni80 wire now, been on stealth vape site but not sure what gauge wire I should purchase, same coil range I would want, so advice please. Cheers jonty

It's just a little lower in resistance, but not a lot, you'd maybe need an extra wrap or two to get it the same. If you are used to 26awg I'd stick with that. ... but if you want go the other way, go down to 28awg, you'd probably need a wrap less to get to the same resistance then.

I think the Gauge is universal so one gauge in SS is the same as a gauge in Kanthal, it's only the resistance that changes down to wire type. I believe Ni80 does ramp up quicker than Kanthal. I quite like SS as it's more in the middle and generally used mostly for TC. This is going by what i have read and learned but some Apes might see it differently.

yeah Nichrome definitely heats up quicker than kanthal. You can usually use a little less watts for a similar vape.

Thanks for the replies, I think I will order 26 and 28 to give them a try, once again many thanks

Just made the purchase from stealth vape for 26 & 28 gauge. Was pleased they still have PayPal option I wonder if they will have it withdrawn in the future.

Hi @Jonty, I don't know if you are already using it but I find Steam Engine a valuable tool for coil making. You can punch in numbers for different wires and see how many wraps are needed for each wire type. Here is the link:

I have used SS316L for the last 4+ years and I'm very happy with it. I started using it when I was trying out TC and since it can be used in both TC and Power/Watts mode I've continued to use it since I have a 250-foot spool.

Hi @Driver9543 yep I do use steam engine very helpful indeed, just trying out new things, read about people using Ni80 and thought I’d give it a try, will be interesting to see if any difference, thanks for your input, not forgetting your drill tip haha.
