The (very) few 3D printed mods I've seen have had a visible 'grainy' affect and managed to look very cheap and nasty.

I have a few cheap and nasty plastic mods that I like because of the ultra low weight - a Vaptio Vex, and a Hugo Vapor Urus. They have that similar cheap, shit look and feel - but both have better build quality.

Jai Haze has done a breakdown of the actual costs and absurd markup for these devices.

Not having a go here but please go try designing a mod from scratch, work it out on paying yourself minimum wage and doing a run for say 100 mods.

I'm talking everything, marketing, software, boards, wiring, 510, nuts, solder, hourly rate, and the list goes on.

If you can sell 100 and make minimum wage, you'll be doing very very well.

i can see your point, but to me it seems like a poor business model. i would say fair play if they are managing to sell them, but not so much even that if they’re not scraping minimum wage for themselves out it.

I would argue it's not my responsibility to compensate someone for a poor business decision i.e. making a few plastic mods at an exorbitant price because I cannot command the economies of scale available to a major manufacturer. If these plastic mods had "made in Hong Kong" stamped on the base, I am convinced there might be an "aye right" attitude, either that or some folks have too much money to spend.:10:

people often pay exorbitant prices for things not for the thing itself, but for the sense of exclusivity that accompanies it. conspicuous consumption.

Not a fan of 3d Printed Mods, they look cheap and nasty and for the price they sell them at you could get your own printer and make one. I am also a big fan of the Mixx, got mine from the classifieds and been using it it since it arrived. My Black Trio looks great on it.

Yeah, I really think it’s the price point that perturbs most of us, it is just a bit of plastic. If what @todd said was true for all mod producers, there wouldn’t be any 3D mods out there. And if it is true, I would love to know which bank is approving the loans for these businesses so I can short their stock :18:
