Accurate Flavour Weight Measurements

If you think of chemical off notes like carbon dioxide in fizzy drinks.
Shake the bottle and remove the lid and the fizz escapes.
With juice just shake the juice up then take the lid off and expell the air by squeezing.
Any chemical gasses get released and just repeat a few times a day and it will be gone before you know it.
If that doesn't work one of your concentrates is probably not upto par.
Sorry mate, i didnt see your reply. Great explaination.

Thanks so much guys. Really value your help there.

Actually, the expelling air thing also gives me a chance to see how the smell will improve as it steeps. I think I'll try leaving the lid off for a couple of hours each day after shaking and squeezing the old air out every day and hopefully I'll have something gorgeous to vape in a couple of weeks.

BTW this is the recipe I've mixed tonight.

I've made up a 120ml bottle and done it as a 70/30 VG/PG Mix with 3mg Nic.

1) NicNic 18mg VG Nic shots x 2
2) Chefs VG -- 64ml - 53.4%
3) Chefs PG -- 11.4ml - 9.5%
4) Chocolate Fudge Brownie V2 (Capella) -- 2.4ml - 2%
5) Double Chocolate V2 (Capella) -- 6ml - 5%
6) Creme de Menthe (TFA) -- 1.8ml - 1.5%
7) Candy Cane (Flavor West) -- 4.8ml - 4%
8) Vanilla Ice Ream (Liquid Barn) -- 7.2ml - 6%
9) Super Sweet (Capella) -- 2.4ml - 2%

I'm slightly confused then because I've seen quite a few people mention leaving the lid off their mix while it's steeping. Perhaps they just do it for short periods so I'd be grateful if someone could elaborate a bit. I've just mixed up a new 120ml batch tonight.

The problem is that it can potentially allow bacteria, mould etc to enter your liquid. Especially because vg and pg are hygroscopic and tend to absorb moisture from the atmosphere.

I also doubt it has any benefit. The idea that harsh flavour in the liquid is caused by some kind of gas seems dubious.

I would always say it’s best to steep with the lid on.

Sounds a wicked mix Marylin, fingers crossed you love it when your steeping time is up.
Glad to see your keeping a record just in case you need to tweek lol.

I do think there possibly is a certain amount of truth in that theory about evaporating off certain chemical gases that are present but, at the same time, I think you're probably right not to leave think lid off all the time.

My first little 10ml batch I vaped on Sunday was a bit chemically to start off with but got better once I got through the first 3 or 4 ml. I'm going to try out just leaving the lid off for an hour or so each day after shaking and expelling the old air and see how well it works in a couple of weeks.

I think it’s unlikely that harshness comes from gasses that can be released by opening the bottle. Even if they were there, they would drift into the atmosphere when you pour the liquid into the tank. Gas wouldn’t hang about in the tank, and even if it did, it wouldn’t be vaporised. I am certain that harshness is caused by the liquid, and constituents of the concentrates, and that steeping is what sometimes mitigates it. This is the most plausible explanation for me.

I can't really agree with that. Beer and fizzy drinks are the most obvious examples of liquids with gas in them. On occasions I've often taken the top off something or other and noticed an unpleasant smell from built up gas in certain things.

I'm too inexperienced with mixing to know how much truth there is in this idea when it comes to e-liquids but I definitely think it's worth experimenting to find out.

Hi Marylin, what your doing regarding mixing is really good.
Giving it a good shake, taking the lid off and expelling the air, leaving it off for an hour or so and storing it out of sunlight will work wonders. Repeating daily till your ready to try is fine. There are variations on the theme which different folk do but in the end it's what your happy with doing.
Sometimes I mix shake and vape, other times I steep as above, sometimes I just leave and forget and that turns out well too.
